Changing database name ?

Hello,
I'm upgrading my website onto a new infrastructure.
On that new infrastructure, the copy of the new database has a new name, and so the username.
I'm currently using SMF 1.1.21
Here's my question : how to change database name+ user name ?
I know there is the right panel to do these modification in the forum "CONFIGURATION/Server Settings"....

You cannot view this attachment.

but to display this panel, you already must have access to a database.
So is there a way to access these setting somewhere else in a configuration file? Or do I have to launch a new configuration batch somewhere? Because If I mess up on that screen, I'm afraid not be able to configure the previous (working) database back ?

Hello, do you mean that you are moving your forum to a new host?

If the answer to my question above is a yes, you should change the database details at the Settings.php file.

Just out of curiosity, is there any reason as to why you are using that ancient version rather than upgrading to 2.1.x, or at the very least to 2.0.19?

Arantor

Note that if you are moving hosts to newer versions, you may *have* to upgrade SMF anyway, 1.1.x does not work on higher than PHP 5.5.

Hi Doug, that's correct. My host provider asked their customer (me) to move onto new servers.
I accepted that, so they've done the migration and I have a couple of weeks to check (in a UAT environment) to  let me adapt and see if I can see any bug following that migration.
I though it was more easy to do that first, and then the SMF migration after (not both on the same operation)

Hi Arantor,

I hope it won't be the case :-S

I can already spot an issue when running repair_settings.php
I adapted new database name+ user, but got this error message ->

You cannot view this attachment.

It's like if the database engine would not be running on host side? I asked also support to my host provider :-(

Arantor

Well, PHP 5.5 is now many years old - you should check with your new host what PHP version they have.

The error you're seeing is because 1.1 doesn't have a configuration for "database engine", it only supported MySQL, while later SMF versions needed to clarify if they were using MySQL or Postgres (or SQLite in 2.0's case)

DarthNuno

Well, so I may have to upgrade my forum first :-S

Do you think I can go from my old 1.1.21 directly to 2.1.2 using the upgrade procedure 'in one shot' or the gap between the 2 versions is too huge ?

Arantor

Assuming the new server meets SMF 2.1's requirements, it should be able to go direct - the upgrade package includes all the steps to convert the database first from 1.1 to 2.0, and then 2.0 to 2.1.

Hey DarthNuno.  Your forum isn't too highly modified... it should be a pretty straight-forward upgrade.  Before you do upgrade I would compare the mods that you have installed with what are available for 2.1...for one you have a Gallery... it's SMF Gallery Pro which is good as there is a 2.1 version of the software.  That said,  I am guessing you're not up on your yearly update payments so there's a good chance you'll be coughing up some cashola for that mod (that said... it's worth it).

I've always loved your site BTW... very nice presentation.

Yes, you should be able to upgrade directly to 2.1.2. Regarding the upgrade process, please have a look at this link:

No problem. In that case I will mark this topic as solved.
