New Members Posting Board

I'm looking for the following:

A new member registers for my forum.  I want to give them permission to ONLY post in Member Introductions, but, I also want them to have READ ONLY access (as if they are a guest) until they've posted in the Member Introductions (ie, be promoted into a new membergroup).

By defautl SMF lets me hide boards to that Newbie poster group.

Also a nice feature would be to have upon registration the new member be redirected to the Member Introductions board <or insert default board here>.

I see this as an easy way to catch any spam-bots that make it through the anti-spam features.

The first request with the intro board for new members is standard SMF. You need to use a permission profile for the board to make this work

1- create user group(s) for post-count.  e.g.
brand-new = 0-1 post
newbie = 1-10 posts
etc
2- Turn on the ability to add DENY permissions
3- create permission profile for "introduction board"
 - set brand-new group with permission allow (check) to create a new topic and permission DENIED (cross-out) to reply to topics
 - set other post count groups with permission allow (check) for reply to topic and DENIED (cross-out) to create new topic
 - set all "general member" permissions to disallow (dash)
4- Set up a permission profile for OTHER boards (which don't already have one)
 - set brand-new group with permission DENIED (cross-out) to create a new topic and permission DENIED (cross-out) to reply to topics
 - set other post count groups with permission allow (check) for reply to topic and allow (check) to create new topic
 - set all "general member" permissions to disallow (dash)




there was a registration redirect mod for 2.0.x

Thank you for the instructions!  I'd preefer to use the built in feature set whenever possible

Those are great instructions Kindred- ought to be stickied somewhere as a stand alone.
