Hi,

while upgrading two forums to 2.1.2 one worked perfectly, one failed.

On step 7 I receive http error 500 - now the forum didn´t work (also error 500).

I checked the server logs:
AH01215: PHP Fatal error:  Cannot redeclare loadSession()
I checked the file permissions and the .htaccess files on both installations - looks identical.

Can you help me?

Was that all in the error log? No file(s) were mentioned at all? Were the files overwritten properly for the second forum?

I deleted all files on the webspace and uploaded it again - it works.

Thank you  :)

Now not sure if I doing this right, but I'm also attempting to Upgrading from 2.0.19 to 2.1.2
but getting the error An Error Has Occurred!  when I attempt to install through ' Download Packages > Package to upload:

Finds the Package OK in my download folder but then I get An Error Has Occurred!

Is there a way to upload via FTP and run from the server?

Thanks chaps! :)

That's my firm opinion.... but what do I know?!

Sir Osis of Liver

You can't upgrade from 2.0.19 to 2.1.2 using package manager.  You must download the large upgrade package, unzip, upload to forum root, and run upgrade.php.  Make sure you backup forum files and database before you start.

as sir osis says you cant upgrade that way .

if you look in package manager in your sites control panel you may see an upgrade package there , if so you can upgrade that way .

HOWEVER if you dont have an upgrade package in package manager in your sites control panel you then need to download the large upgrade zip file from this site . that is the LARGE UPGRADE zip file .

dont unzip it after downloading , leave it as it is . next you need to put that zip file in the root folder for your site . the root folder for your site will be stored on your host . so you need to access your host C PANEL , accesss to that and how it may appear can differ a tad with different hosts , but in essence the basics should be the same .

so you need to access your hosts c panel , go to advanced , and then you need to select and open FILE MANAGER .

next you look for PUBLIC_HTML , and open that .

now there should be a folder there somewhere which is the root folder for your site . if so open that folder and you should now see all files and folders within it that make up your site . your sites database is not stored here so dont worry about that .

you should try and have access to a database backup copy before you do any major work . you may not need it but its always a good idea to have a backup .

ok at this point if you look along the top of screen you should see an upload option , or it may say import , which ever it says select it , that should take you to your laptop and to where you can select and upload the large upgrade file you just downloaded from here .

so upload it , it will only take seconds . now all being well the large upgrade zip file should be in your sites root folder .

next in your root folder look for and delete the sources and themes folders .dont worry you will be be creating new folders .

next select the large upgrade file by clicking on it one time , now look along the top of screen again and you should see an EXTRACT option . select it . all being well now you should now have a whole new set of files and also a new sources and themes folders .

if you scroll down through these files you should see several upgrade files . one will be upgrade.php

so now its time to upgrade .

how you do that is open a web browser , in the browser copy/paste the url to your site example
https://www.simplemachines.org followed by /upgrade.php

so it will look like this example https://www.simplemachines.org/upgrade.php

and then hit enter key

now all being well the upgrade screen should appear . and it goes in several stages where it will ask you to hit CONTINUE .be patient and just let it do its thing .

smf tends to put the site in maintenance mode when its upgrading , so if oyu cant see the site properly at this point this will be why .

when the process is complete go back to your sites host folder and delete all the upgrade files .

now access your sites admin control panel and and log in and turn off maintenance mode .

HOW IS YOUR SITE NOW ? . look in the bottom left of the site and it should display the smf version number . if its 2.1,2 its upgraded .

sadly old themes and mods may not be compatible with smf 2.1.2 and upgrading like this uninstalls them in any case .so you will only have the default theme and no mods installed . carefully install a suitable and correct theme and likewise carefully install only safe and compatible mods .

if you have any issues beyond this after upgrade dont worry you have the very best people here on thid site that can help you .

So basically if you don't have C-Panel, these are the only things that need to be deleted?
I also can't unzip so I would need to upload the files separately via ftp
