Hi,
I am getting this error message when trying ot log in to the Admin area. Also I cannot log out of the forum.

"Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again."

Help please.

Did you close/open browser?  Could also be http/https issue, you can check that with repair_settings.

I did not close/open the browser before I tried to log out.

All my URL's start with HTTPS in repair_settings.

I have also tried clearing the cache and cookies in the browser and also turned off caching in SMF settings.

So, I changed the cookie name and I can
1 login
2 login to admin area
3 log out of forum completely

I can can repeat the process.

However if I then restart the computer I can;
1 Login
2 Cannot login to admin area "Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again."
3 Cannot log out

If I reset the cookie name again I can then login to all areas and logout.
It looks like I have to reset the Cookie name every time I reboot the computer.

Ok... that indicates that the problem is on your computer, not the server

It's not only my computer but other admins as well.

Got any idea what it might be so I can resolve it??

are you using a bookmark to open your forum URL? did you by chance change to a https vs http URL? if you log in the wrong URL it could cause this issue.

ivanr

Yes, it is happening on all browsers
Firefox, Microsoft edge and iphone chrome.

I have double checked my URL settings in Repair-settings.
Also I have type https://domain name/forum directly into the browser without using a bookmark, still no joy.

are you using database driven sessions?
are you using local cookies?
are you using global cookies?

Solved: after your last post Kindred I started playing around with Cookie Settings
Initially I had
Local Storage of cookies - off
Use sub domain Independent cookies - on
Use Database driven sessions - on

Now I changed the Local cookies to ON in the forum "Cookies and Sessions" but when I looked in the SQL Settings file via PHPAdmin.
Globalcookies  = 1
Localcookies = 1

Well I know that both should not be 1, it's one or the other so I manually reset globalcookies = 0 and I was able to fully log in to the forum and admin area, I was able to log in on the iphone (after clearing browsing history) and another admin forum member was able to log in.

So seems the issue is now fixed.

So why could  not log in using global cookies ? A setting on the Host server side ?? Now using Https instead of Http?

Kindred

I would assume that it's due to some quirk of your server settings....

you probably don't need it anyway, unless you are using SSI to handle SMF content outside of the subdomain that your forum is installed into.
