When I try to upgrade my forum I get the following message:

"Your MySQL version does not meet the minimum requirements of SMF", it did work before...

I am with names.co.uk [nofollow] for the hosting and according to the control panel I am using version
MySQL 5.1.44

Any help greatly appreciated.

SMF 2.1 requires a minimum of MySQL 5.6, released in 2013. Your version doesn't have all the features SMF 2.1 uses.

Have a look at requirements and recommendations section for smf 2.1.x.

https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/SMF2.1:Requirements_and_recommendations

Additionally, it would be best to upgrade to 2.1.3 which is the latest version, rather than upgrading to 2.1.2.

Thanks for the reply, the hosting company tells me I need to export the database, create a new one & then import the database into it but is this necessary & in any case I neither know how to do this & there is no option in the control panel of my hosting company to do this...

Kindred

go to phpmyadmin choose export

however... your host (or any host worth the money you pay) should be willing to either do it or walk you through it
