Hello guys, is it possible to make the forum only to guest mode, means no one can login or register?

Arantor

Not out of the box. Disabling registration is doable from the UI but not the login part.

The quickest way to facilitate that would be to go into the database, to the smf_members table and set everyone's is_activated value to 3. (Or to 13 if they're banned. These folks will already have a score of more than 10)

3 is the "requires admin approval to login/use the site" setting.

I must be reading the OP's question differently than you @Arantor ...

Admin -> Registration -> Members -> Settings Tab -> Disable Registration and set each board up for guests only?
DO NOT pm me for support!

Kindred

That would not prevent login for people who have accounts

Yup, what I understood from the OP is that they want something where guests can see the content and no one can log in, some kind of archive mode.

but that will keep users login ?

DeadMan...

Why not go into the database and delete the sessions? That would effectively log everyone out.

You would have to edit the files and make it so they could not log back in, though. Not sure if it would really be worth it to do so.

If making the site an archive, what is the problem with allowing users with accounts to log in? If not want them to post, you can always set the permissions to not allow posting.
I tell it how I see it... Don't like it? Hit Alt+F4!

Snow-Man

thought there is an option to prevent users to login and keep them only as guest

Sir Osis of Liver

You can make all boards read only by setting all groups to guest permissions, wouldn't matter if members are logged in.

Or you can do what Arantor suggested and deactivate all members (if you want to mess with the database) and disable registration.

Or you can remove login from template, comment out login and login2 in actions array (so they can't get around it), and change cookie name to log everyone out.

No, it doesn't actually. Common misunderstanding - in SMF thr cookies are enough to recreate a session, but not enough to keep you elevated to admin (or to preserve the anti+tamper token on posting)

As I said, if you want to make it so people can't log in, make their accounts all admin approval, then they can't log in, no file changes required.

so, you have no existing users....

so, disable registration and you're all set

or use a FAQ, blog or wiki software instead of a forum - all of which seem better suited to your use case.
