I have taken over a forum that was running on 2.0.18 and have updated it to 2.1.4 using a Large Package which seemed successful with one caveat.

The posts do not display any images, and when I select the link for an image I either get a garbled image, as shown below or just a blank screen.

I have looked in the attachments directory and the files are all present, however they are now mostly now called .dat files now whereas they were without any extension before. The files in the attachments-ORIG do not have any file extension.

The settings for the images are shown here.

I have attached two of the files, on from attachments and the same one from attachment-ORIG in the hope that someone can see what is wrong.

I am not familiar with the Simple Machines forum software, though have become more familiar as today has progressed and and help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Iain Morrison

Hi Iain and welcome to Simple Machines.

Before the upgrade to 2.1.4 was the forum using a mod called Post and PM Inline Attachments by any chance? If it was then try installing the latest version and see if that helps.

The .dat extension is added by 2.1 upgrade to fix a longstanding problem with FileZilla.  The attachment you posted is corrupt, possibly because it was downloaded/uploaded using FZ with default transfer settings.  If you have access to the original files, you must dl/ul with transfer type set to binary.
When in Emor, do as the Snamors.

The Post and PM Inline Attachments mod doesn't alter the content of images and as per SOL's comment the image files have been corrupted.
