(Automatic) Links don't work anymore

Hi all, hope you all had wonderful holidays and will be having a great new year ahead of you.

We're experiencing some weird thing lately. I've noticed that none of our URLs within posts work as links anymore. They're plain text unless I actively use the link option from the editor or put url code around it. This happens across all themes, including the Default one. I only made changes to 2 of them lately, but nothing to core files or Source files that could affect other ones, too.
I checked with the Features & Options section and the check mark is set and BBcodes are enabled. I only recently checked/unchecked the HTML option because I wanted to test HTML code within a certain topic until I realized, Admins can do that anytime, so I unchecked that again.
I don't know if there's any correlation to my actions but after putting my HTML code into one post, I noticed that URLs don't show as links anymore (could be coincidental though). Also, when I try to embed an image with the BBcode from the editor, the picture is not shown and the link is invisible.

I don't know if this is also related to this but every now and then we also get an error message for the Version Checking of SMF which was an issue earlier this year due to some SMF server problems as far as I can remember.

Illori

admin -> configuration -> features and options -> bulletin board code automatically link posted URLs, is this checked? if not check and save the page and test again.

Hi. Yes, as I mentioned, this is checked and wasn't touched. I only checked/unchecked "html" once.
I also tried unchecking and re-checking the BBcode options manually to no avail.

No errors are reported or came up during an error search via Maintenance.

One thing I can remember before I actively noticed this behavior is that when I tried to edit the post via "quick edit" where I wanted to insert my html code, I once again got this weird formatting issue which I reported here:
https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=584587.msg4142139#msg4142139
Once opened, it added opening/closing bbcode all over the place for size, font, and color as if there had been some missing code which SMF's "auto-correct" tried to fix.

I hesitate to ask because you do know what you're doing but is the specific box @Illori mentioned checked?

I just tested mine with just posting typing the link and when posted, it was converted to a link. I really don't think this has anything to with admins posting html.

Are you using the WYSIWYG editor?

Other than that, I'll have to turn this over to the coders.
My pet rock is not feeling well. I think it's stoned.

Hi guys! I can happily report that it wasn't a bug or anything "nefarious". The owner had updated PHP and forgot to restart the service. Thank you both for you help, though!

Wish you all a Happy New Year!
