Packages go missing again and again

Yesterday I wanted to unsinstall Pretty URLS, but I noticed the Browse package panel is empty. I checked my last backup from the time before I moved to the new server, the packages are in the package directory. I copied them back. I uninstalled PrettyURLs. Today, I wanted to uninstall another mod, the packages are missing again. How is it possible??? Someone hacked my site? Why only the packages went missing?

Kindred

It's unlikely that anyone is hacking your site -- but something is very wrong with your database, that's where the package list is stored

If the actual files are missing, it could also be some bad host side security script that is deleting the files. Wouldn't be the first time. At least GoDaddy has done this.

Haha, I am just in the process of upgrading to 2.0.19, have just copied back everything to the Packages folder yesterday, and VOILA, on trying to install the next patch every mod package disappeared from that directory again. 10 minutes ago they were still there. This is crazy. Isn't there a kind of log where I could check what deleted it?

This really shouldn't happen, so I'm not sure where it would be logged if anywhere. Who are you hosted with?
Perhaps try a different route, upload the packages through your hosting control panel if you used FTP earlier - or the other way around. If this doesn't help, maybe contact your host and ask them about this.

Well, I'm not familiar with them - but a quick google search reveals that they've actually advertised the fact that they are "one of the cheapest hosting providers in the industry". This usually does not bode well. In any case, if changing they way you upload contents doesn't fix the immediate issue for you - do contact them and ask them to explain what is happening and why.

Tried through Directadmin file upload, they got deleted again. I will contact the host.

Since the OP has been here yesterday with no further input on this issue, marking solved.
