Hi everyone,
We had a problem yesterday with email so I took it up with the host. They asked me to change the setup to starttls and the forum is now asking for a default email program which it has never done before. Sending a test email in admin no longer works although no error is raised, however when a PM is raised, if notifications are set then an email is sent out.
In the admin settings for email there is nothing on this.
Has anybody else experienced this?
If anybody can help with this I would be grateful.
Best regards,
Barry.

Illori

how exactly is it asking for a default email program? any error message or screenshot you can provide us?

Hi There Illori,
Many thanks for your prompt reply. It is much appreciated.
It is no longer showing any error message thank goodness. Yesterday I was getting cron errors and timeouts for logins. So I think that I had problems with the host. Then it became apparent that we were having a problem with emails. so I spoke to the host and they asked me to change from ssl://smtp to SMTP-STARTTLS with a different port number. So I did that and went to send a test email in the admin section. I never received the message so I tried to send a message to my partner by going to her profile and clicking on the email link. and I started to get this messages that says Select an app to open the 'mailto' link. I put the settings back to where they started but the message just ovverides the ability to do an email in house. I tried a tablet as well just to make sure that it was not something that had affected my notebook but it was just the same.
It does seem to be the standard message from the browser where there is an a tag href that begins with mailto.
I hope that helps.
Best regards,
Barry.

Illori

that means that the computer has no application set to open a mailto link, that has nothing to do with SMF.

For some reason I thought that we used to compose emails within the forum.
Senility has struck here.
Many thanks once again Illori.
Best regards,
Barry.
