Might take a little while for that.

That isn't the correct repository, @GravuTrad. We should probably delete that one entirely.

The correct repository is https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF
I promise you nothing.

GravuTrad

Yes.

And why so by default on the 3.0 branch and not the 2.1 one? (i found more logical the contrary)

Because 3.0 is the future, 2.1 isn't going to get significant feature development at this point (as it has *always* been)

or at least make it private

SleePy

It has been archived.  Even though it didn't have code, we shouldn't delete any public code.

which public code, if it doesn't have code? why not remove it? (less confusion)

The team that builds SMF do a great job! I am looking forward to seeing it turns out, and how the new features improve the overall package.

I await the day when screenshots might be shared.  ;D
I'm stuck in a time warp from the early 00's.

There isn't much noticeable difference between 2.1 and 3.0 from a user standpoint. There are a few admin-side changes (friendly URLs, different search index options, different way of handling events/holidays) and the ability to create recurring events on the user side, but beyond that you won't see much difference at this point. The majority of the changes have been to the code itself. A new theme is in the works as well but is still in development.

GravuTrad

Good news anyway. I hope the new theme will be more larger and more actual.

Thanks for the update! Glad to hear SMF is moving towards version 3.0 and that compatibility with 2.1 mods will be maintained. Really looking forward to seeing the new architecture and user improvements. Good luck to the whole team with development!

In the roadmap you mentioned 2.1.5 as the last version before 3.0. I guess 2.1.6 wasn't planned but you needed to repair quickly a few things and that's why it was released. So does it mean that the next planned release after 2.1.6 is 3.0?

And my second question. What about theme compatibilities? Will 3.0 work with 2.1 themes or not? I'm still waiting with updating my forum to 2.1 because my theme is not compatibile with it. I have one theme in mind, but I need to pay someone to modify it and I'm wondering if it's worth doing or perhaps it's better to wait for 3.0 and then pay for this theme.

unlikley themes have never been cross compatible between versions, also 3.0 is ALONG time away so you would likley  be best to get your current theme upgraded.  Each core release has significant cdoing changes so its unlikley a 2.1 theme will work on 3.0 as coding styles etc change

No, there is currently no planned end date for 2.1.x releases. We will continue to provide bugfix and security updates for 2.1 even after 3.0 is released.

Themes will not be compatible.

I have updated the first post to make it clear that bug fixes and security updates to the 2.1.x line will continue.

It's good to know that 2.1 will still be updated.

In my case I'll wait a little longer before deciding but I think I'll decide to switch to 2.1.

However, I hope you won't keep us waiting long for 3.0 :)

Thanks
