Just looking for criticism. Good and bad.

Site is http://www.jdworldforum.com

Forum is an online community for folks to get together and just chit chat, share, play games, lots of contests and mainly just to meet and have fun. Trying hard to make it for the local community of colorado springs, but not working to well.

Your thoughts and ideas are welcome. Praise too. :)

how about letting us see it?

That's your first mistake. Hiding the entire forum from view really hurts how many people will register, they dont see what they're joining..
The only thing php can't do is tell you how much milk is left in the fridge.

Why are you using the (boring) default theme? Second, my thoughts exactly what Tippmaster says  :-\

anunlike

I third that. Open it up to guests to see.

I won't join one that requires me to sign up just to see it, unless it comes personally recommended.

You're shooting yourself in the foot by not opening it up.  This would allow search engines to index your content and bring you free visitors who might sign up and contribute to your forum.

Wow, im glad i asked now. I was wondering what in the world. Didnt realize i locked out guests to view the board. Been so busy and didnt pay attention.

I left the default theme as colors matched my site jdworld.net

Back to the forum at hand though jdworldforum.com

Kindly ask if you all could give your ups and downs regards the forums. Also i apologize for the lockout, but in same note thank you for bringing it to my attention.

If going to stay with default theme do try to personalize more. For it is to plain jane generic. Just some simple tweaks can change things up some.

But can relate I only made some simple changes for I want to wait and see what 1.1 final will have to offer. So I just kept it simple some minor hacks.

But off to a good start.  ;)

I believe the background image is located here:  /Themes/default/images/mirrortab_back.gif
Just replace that with your customized new image.

Or just make a change to your themes style.css

Example of how I did mine. Added background image.

/* The main body of the entire forum. */
body
{
background-color: #DCDCDC;
                background-image: url(images/chapelflag.gif);
margin: 0px;
padding: 12px 30px 4px 30px;

Just upload the image you want to use to the images folder and use that.

I left the bg color in place and just let the image ride on top. Some remove/replace it.
