I'm curious here, but I am thinking of doing a deviantART-like site basing everything off of SMF. I'm curious as to how much programming this is going to require as far as getting user pages with a blog and gallery on them? Do you guys know if there are already mods? Will I need to find someone to do some custom work; if so, who would you recommend?

Sorry to ask so many questions.

Thanks!

Hopefully you realize this would be a huge project, and you'd need a fair amount of knowledge to do this, but my 2 cents is that obviously the blog and everything would be based from the user profile, you'd need to do a lot of work to get the blog post functions and everything working though. But best of luck to you.

Well yeah, I know this is going to be quite large. I've already done some research on quotes for something standalone and I've had offers ranging from $500 to $1k to $3k. Quite frankly, I just don't have the budget for that right now. My hope was that doing it in a more community based manner would be cheaper and just as efficient given the slant on the site that I want to put.

I was wondering at this point if either:

A) There were mods for gallery and blogs already in existence that could be put together. (I know there's SMF integration with some galleries out there already.)

B) There was someone out there who specializes in SMF mods that could either tweak existing ones or create ones that may be needed.

I personally am very limited in the PHP field so that's why I was looking around for a programmer or at least some advice. I mean this project may simply not be feasible for me, but it's something I've been stewing over for months.

Thanks for the luck, I am gonna need it. :)

You can always check out TinyPortal.

Not sure how well it would do for you, though.
