I'll sic the Angry Sandwich on you. :P

So I imagine the gap between RC3 and 1.1 Final won't be too long?
It really depends.  If we don't get a lot of bug reports then it shouldn't be too long.  However if we do get a lot of bug reports then we'll have to fix them.

Just a quick question. I really should know the answer to this by now, as I've been using SMF for well over a year now, but...What is the difference between the "Update" and the "Upgrade" packages for RC3 (or any other package for that matter)?

I'm currently running 1.1RC2 at www.cache-community.co.uk. I dont have many mods at the moment, apart from the IE style bar at the top of the screen if you are not registered (which I had to add to the code by hand from a mod, and cant remember off the top of my head, what code or what files I edited, although I'll more than likely have to hunt down the original mod after I upgrade/update).

So, which package should I use? Maybe this should be made more clear to newbies and semi-experienced users alike, cause at the moment ( and after a years experience) I can't make out which method I should use.
Is there not a package-manager style one-click update/upgrade!

Thantos

Update is to go from the previous version to the latest version in the same branch.  So SMF 1.1 RC2 to RC3 you can use the update package.

Upgrade is to go from a previous branch or older versions of the same branch.  So SMF 1.0.x to SMF 1.1 RC3 would use the Upgrade.

When in doubt you can always use the upgrade package.

Thanks, I always wondered that as well.

What kind of impact is this going to have on Mods?  Is there alot of major change in this?

Do i need to go through the process of uninstalling all my mods, upgrading and then reinstalling them as they get to 1.1 rc 3?  If I just upgrade will I be messing things up.  I have a crap load of mods too.

karlbenson

me too, I have 30+ mods and mods of mods.

I dont need to upgrade right this second, so I'm going to wait until the dust settles to see which mods work and which ones get updated.

Great work! Congrats.

I saw this in the change log:

Quote* Added a (manual) method by which the auto-news from SMF can be disabled. (Admin, ManageSmileys, Packages, Themes templates)

I've been unable to find this ...

Or I guess "manual" means that you have to do it via the files, directly.

Bigguy

I just upgraded my forums from 1.1rc2 to rc3 and these are the mods I have installed and working with no errors so far. For some of these I had to open the "package-info.xml" file and change the version but they re-installed just fine.

Is there something change in template (boardindex and indextemplate) with rc3 ?

Just a thought on the text from the download section and the upgrade package for 1.1rc3.

The text say
QuoteSMF 1.1 RC3 - update      zip  tar.gz  tar.bz2      419

Update package from the previous version, except when you have mods installed. You can use the upgrade package too, but it's larger.
Use this if you have SMF 1.1 RC3 installed. Remember to run upgrade.php, and if you're not using English get the new language files.

Shouldent it say "Use this if you have SMF 1.1 RC2 installed. "  :o

Question:

QuoteAdded a CAPTCHA option to the registration page (Including audio support for accessibility).

CAPTCHA is only available for use during registration?  I thought it might be made use by guests to post comments on actual forum posts ???

Anyone?

Wo0t! I can't wait to upgrade, test and re-test mods only to find out they don't work and I have to go back and spend hours editing files on all of my forums :)! Sersiously though, you guys are doing an amazing job and I can't wait for 1.1 final, or 1.1 RC4 :D.
