A minor quibble I know, but my forum has some 400,000 posts+IMs, and ended up taking a slight bit longer than that.

For the 1.2 release, might I suggest something that could update that with a status for less patient users of large forums?  10% done, 20% done, and so on?

You can always edit Settings.php manually and change the message, updating it automatically is probably going a little bit far.

Ps, know what you mean with almost 2.5 million posts, it can take a little while.
