Database Conflict: Smf & Coppermine in same dbase)

Hi,

I've got the latest SMF and Coppermine running in the
same database, but keep getting fatal errors in coppermine
which coppermine support says is due to having different
language settings between SMF/Coppermine.  They say
to move coppermine to it's own dbase with different
usernames (cache), and that there is no other solution.

Is this a known issue?  Is this common when using mysql
databases, that all programs need different database files
to avoid language conflict errors?

Thanks,
east

H

Could you please give me a link to your coppermine support thread?

I've never heard of this happening before as coppermine should be able to use the correct table language without being in a certain database.

Are you using UTF-8 with SMF?

you support guys may need to take a peek at this.
Looks like you guys need to resolve this one before
it gets out of hand.

doctoreast,

Not everyone needs the use of UTF-8 on their forum. Such as Me who runs a english only forum and have no use for the special characters or such of UTF-8.
You have the option of converting to UTF-8 yourself if you wish. It is as simple as downloading the UTF-8 versions of the languages you have and uploading them. Then converting in the Forum Maintenance.

If your site is a big Site I suggest you do this at a low time when not many people are on and Put it in Maintenance mode while doing this.

sleepy,
The manual points to the admin function to convert to utf8, but I only see
the link to convert html files to utf8.  Where's the link to convert the dbase?

Admin -> Forum Maintenance -> Convert the database and data to UTF-8

Sleepy,
Take one guess at why I couldn't find that link?  It's because the database
is already utf-8.  Coppermine kept telling that this error was due to language
difference, and so I took his word for it.  Yea, the only language difference
is utf-8 and utf8-unicode-ci; which means what?  Look at the very base
of your SMF "settings.php" file (language setting.).  This thread doesn't seem to
die, but take my word for it, you do not want to put the two on the same dbase.
I'm going to seperate the two.  Nuff said........

Sleepy,
Newbie, fresh install, latest versions of both.  Coppermine says that putting
them on the same dbase joins the tables together.  All I can figure is that the
two utf8 may be different?  Try if  you want, because this is going to be a problem
for people using one dbase. Critical Errors.

The only reason that link wouldn't be there is
1. Not SMF 1.1 RC3 or higher
2. Custom theme edits the Admin template files
3. Free Host Disables this.
