Beginner help/question

I recently opened an SM forum and have it set up and running.  I'm catching on quick to the basics of the forum settings but being a beginner I want to make sure that I am doing things properly.
This is my first time as Admin on an SMF but I have been a user for a long time.  My question is now that the forum is up and running are there steps/modifications I should take to keep it safe on the web?
My host is lunarpages and I installed SMF with Fantastico.  I have not made any modifications other than the forum setup in admin(basic stuff) and nothing to my file manager. 
From what I have read SMF looks to be very secure but I need to make sure I keep it that way.  Any help would be very appreciated and thank you!

Within the General English Support forum there's a subforum for Admin stuff, also I remember reading a FAQ elsewhere on the site that went though what to do - nothing too strenuous

Just make sure you always upgrade to the latest version and install the security patches.
Also take regular backups incase something goes wrong.
You should be safe then.

Do the security patches show in the Administrator center support information or do you have to get them somewhere else?

They show up & announced on this forum.
You should also recieve a mail with every new version or update.

Most of the time they show up in the package manager.
2 clicks and your forum is updated

I believe the upgrade from 1.1 ro 1.1.1 one a security upgrade.
No others so far.
