Ok I want to add smileys but when I select a new pack the smileys under the posting turn to red x's can someone PLEASE help me?

Did you check to see if the smileys path is correct?  Use repair_settings.php to check.
What is repair_settings.php?

Can you tell me how to add a link to the default smileys that would say more smileys and lead to the other ones?

Go to http://yoursite.com/smf/index.php?action=smileys;sa=editsmileys.  There select the smileys that you want in a popup and then select "Show onpopup" in the dropdown at the bottom of the page.
