first topic on board 'open'

I would like to know if SMF can already do this and if not how hard would it be to make a mod for it?

Instead of a list of topics - have the first topic 'open' and its contents viewable straight away. With a list of the previous topics below the 'open' topic. I think I read briefly that there is an option to not make new replies shoot the topic to the top of the board.

I'm sorry for posting this twice but this option/functionality really depends on me using SMF any further.

I have an illustration blog hxxp:300.mpm.org.au [nonactive] that I'd like to merge into a forum at the root of hxxp:www.mpm.org.au [nonactive] - but I don't want to lose the visual impact of blog entries being viewable straight away.

If it's not possible to do this at all then I'd like to know so I can move on to building my site with something else.

Is there a mod or function to have a 'preview' or 'intro' to a topic open like I described?
