Joomla SMF SEF problem

Joomla 1.0.12, SMF 1.1.2, Bridge 1.1.7

Problem with SEF: after activating Joomla Core SEF, I couldn't access Topics/Posts.
Searching through Simplemachines community I found this topic:

I edited .htaccess file as Orstio provided, at first it seemed to work well, but I found a problem in SMF AdminCenter: I failed to apply SMF 1.1.2 patch (through the Packages section). After disabling SEF, it worked. Then I tried many other actions and figured out that any action related to server configuration (like adding Packages or setting Session Timeout) is unexecutable. SMF returns 'An Error Has Occurred!'.

What could it be ? (sorry but I know little about SEF, I just love the short URLs).
