I don't know much programming, but I want to help SMF, and I love the forum.

I would like to join the smf team (volunteer only - no money involved). I know smf is open source, so that means people can help to develop it.

Like I said I don't know php, but I'd like to help SOME HOW. Please tell me how I can help, and how to join the smf team.

Even if it's just moderating the site or something. Just something to help.

You could also become a Charter Member and support them with $$$ ;)

Apart from getting the Charter Membership, you can help SMF even without becoming a Team Member or having any other kind of post. Just by hanging around here and trying to help other people, that is a big support to the smf community as well

It kinda scares me when I see people that hasn't been here as long as me, but have contributed a lot more. I wish I was well enough to contribute all the time :( But yes, babjusi is right: just hanging around and helping out is a big help too. And as Thantos pointed out in the linked thread, being continuously active and helpful counts to becoming something more.

FYI, nobody on this team is paid anything for their work!

SMF isn't considered "Open Source": http://www.simplemachines.org/about/opensource.php

It depends on how one defines it. The term "open source" has been around some time before the OSI existed and doesn't mean solely what they say it must. SMF is open source, just not the way the OSI uses the term.

I guess you can say SMF is SMF!

To be honest, we usually do not pick users that ask to become team members :P
Most of the team members became team members because we noticed that they were making significant contributions towards SMF and/or its community. So, the main thing is to hang around here and try to help people out, and if we notice that you're putting in a lot of effort, we may consider you. The post Thantos linked to explains most of it.

Edit: Note that this is not an official statement... It's just some thoughts from me :)

Go to smfshop.com for SMFshop support, do NOT email or PM me!

Stallyon

Dang! And I was going to quote you on that too, Daniel ;) j/k

Which means that even if one puts a lot of effort and it is being noticed, chances are that he won't be considered. :P
I will update all my mods in the next few weeks. Thanks for your patience.
