hi,

My forum is powered by SMF 1.1.5 and my forum is in English.

However, some members will try to post something in Chinese or Japanese.

but those characters in Chinese and Japanese can't be display correctly.

May I know how to solve this problem when posting?

Thanks a lot

The DB charecter set should be UTF-8 to show language text other than latin properly, and also you need to make sure that your browser supports them

To know about converting your SMF to UTF-8 and a bit more about it, See UTF-8 Readme

Hi, thanks for the quick reply :D

like what you said, I think I'm using UTF-8 currently.

this is because my "Default Forum Language" is "English British-Utf8"

so any idea of this?

thanks

Is the database converted to UTF-8 also and do you know if your browser supports it? Quick test to see if browser supports it is by going to a site with Chinese/Japanese characters.

I think it's because of database never converted to UTF-8, so what should I do with it?

Hello polytalks, have you managed to convert SMF to UTF-8? You need to convert the database and data to UTF-8 -- just using a -ut8 language pack is not enough.

Yes, it's a known problem with Fantastico.

Follow the instructions in this topic: I cannot use Special Characters
