Many years ago I designed a Browser and it was very, very good.  I didn't call it a 'Browser' though, I called it an 'Intelligent Interface' - that is what it meant to me but to a user it was, well, just a browser.  Of course, the word 'Browser' had not yet been invented.

I'd like to change the names 'General Category', General Discussion', 'Child' and others to my own to my own usage. You could explain to a user that "Child" doesn't really mean a child - that it is a term used by programmers and systems people to (continued page 317....).  You have to design systems from the users point of view - most are not at all interested in the workings of the machine.

you can change the category and board names form the manage boards section of the admin tool.

As for "child Boards". You can change that in the language file(s) of the default theme. However, "child board" is a standard term and is not limited to technical or systems people...  What else would call it?

(finally, please post in the correct location next time)

Calling it a "standard term" is meaningless - you are saying it is right because everyone else does it.  I would prefer not to use it out of sensitivity to my users.

The child boards can be renamed.

I call mine 'Sub Boards.'

Actually, by common consensus is the very definition of "standard"

Plus, I have mo idea what you mean by sensitivity... How is using the term "child board" being insensitive?

Regardless, as I already said, yes, you can change it

Maybe they think it means a board for children to use? Kinda like the kids table at a family get together. I really am just taking a guess, I don't know, lol.

I had a look at your MKA and it gives me confidence.  I am trying to build a facility based on SMF - see it as a building where people have 'apartments' or an Arts Factory where people have their own space and where each person has a studio (board) and an annex (child). The studio is for 'work' and the annex is for chat.  I would use the words "Too busy" rather than banned and that sort of tone.

I suppose I'll find out how to rename the child by my usual route of trial and error :)

I come from management training and the term 'sensitivity' is almost technical jargon - there I'm doing it myself!  (task/sensitivity).

Regardless, as I already said, yes, you can change it

Thanks.
