You don't need to deny the access to member list and profile, you must deny "View email adresses" from member group permissions.

That's what I'd done but it isn't working, the group in question can still see email addresses for other members (even with a fresh cache) so I've resorted to removing access to parts of the forum where the email addresses are displayed. I'd rather get this mod to work as it looks like a very neat way to do it, I'm actually surprised this isn't a core function.

I have made the same restrictions (access profile), but after I have installed the mod (part of it manually, like you did), I am very satisfied with results and now I can make profile available again. Make sure that the group you intend to deny from email view, don't inherit some permissions from other group, some users cand be members of two or more groups. I can only advice to deny access to email view to all membergroups, and start permiting access to email view one by one member group.

OK will try that approach tonight and see how it goes. thanks for your help :)

So, I'm trying to install this modification on my forums, and I have on failed installation error, which is in the "./Themes/core/PersonalMessage.template.php". I've been fiddling with it, and manually editing it (like it says in the modification), however, it's not showing up when I click the permissions. Would you like for me to post the entire coding in here, or..? Please help.

Forum Version: 2.0.3

It needs to be rewritten completely, so much has changed in the last 4 years... including massive rewrites to most of SMF in that time.
Holder of controversial views, all of which my own.
