Hallo all

First of all I must admit that I am use to phpbb. But somehow I feel like looking for another forum software for my new site. And it seems like that SMF would be the best solution. But...before I decides which forum software I am going to use. I would like to know something.

The new site I am making will use joomla as frontend, dokuwiki or mediawiki as wiki and wordpress multi as blog. And of couse SMF as the forum software. My questions are...:

1: When you integrate SMF with e.g joomla are you using the SMF userdatabase?
2: Is it possible to integrate wordpress multi with SMF?
- Want I what..when an user makes a account at SMF the user also gets an account at wpmu, but only an account and not a blog. If the users wants a blog he or she has to "click" a button saying "Create Blog".
3: Is it possible to integrate dokuwiki or mediawiki with SMF?
- What I want...when an user makes a account at SMF the user also gets an account at dokuwiki or mediawiki.
4: Is it possible to integrate Joomla with SMF?
5: I want my users to have one login and one password. And they also only need to login once.

The best solution would be that all the integrations only uses SMF userdatabase.

I really hope that there is someone who can help me with this.....thanks in advance.

Cheers

1- no. the bridge is a BRIDGE.  neither the SMF nor the joomla files nor databases are changed. The bridge make a duplicate entry of the smf user into the joomla user table (since smf is the primary in this case, all user maintainence and profiles should be done in SMF). The bridge login module handles logging into both joomla and smf at the same time and the bridge registration handles the duplication of the user information to both user tables during the registration process.

2- There is a very nice wordpress component for Joomla.   With the SMF-Joomla bridge in place, wordpress links into the mix just fine. (JD-Wordpress 2.0 by predator)

3- There is a very nice docuwiki component for joomla. With the SMF-Joomla bridge in place, the WIKI links into the mix just fine. (JD-WIKI 1.0.4 by predator). There is also a less user-firnedly (IMO) MediaWiki component for joomla...

4- see #1 above.

5- see #1 above.

Thanks alot for the fast answer Kindred.

I used the bridge for SMF and Joomla. And it works just fine. The JD-WIKI I already knew...and it went just fine. But...yes...there is always a but  ;)...the wordpress component was only for wordpress and not for wordpress multi (WPMU). But I guess that more a joomla problem....or a wpmu problem. But if you have any ideas...I would be pleased to know them.

Hi Kindred,

I have almost the same plans, but do not really need Joomla.

(1) Is it needed to use Joomla as a 'hub' to bridge with SMF, Dokuwiki & Wordpress?
(2) If so, what would be the right order to handle this, i.e. what needs to be done first or does it not matter?
(3) As SMF has a bridge/integration with DokuWiki, and apparently also SMF/Wordpress exists, can SMF be used as the base? Again, what order do multiple bridges need to be built?  :D

Thanks for any help

I have not tested mutliple bridges on the same system....  and since I don't know what effect each bridge has on SMF, I can not tell you what the interaction might be.

The only combination I have tried uses Joomla as the interaction point.

So, if you want to try linking SMF to docuwiki and also to Wordpress, I would suggest setting it up on a test site.
