SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC3
Finally getting around to upgrading to 1.1 Final.  I downloaded the zip file and extracted everything to a new directory to hold the fresh, unmodified code.  I then used Filezilla to upload each directory's contents to its equivalent directory on my hosted server; however, when I go into Admin functions in 1.1RC3 I can't find the 1.1 Final upgrade in the list of things to execute.

I've read and reread the Support pages (and I've done this at least twice before), but I must not be understanding something and doing it wrong because I can't find the magic button to run the upgrade.  When I restart by browser and load the forum page I get the 1.1 RC3 version data displayed.  When I look at the server side SMF files with Filezilla, not all of the file dates have changed.

Can someone please help this idiot?

TIA

make sure to upload everything expect settings.php and settings_bak.php

Then once you are done go to http://yoursite.com/forum/upgrade.php
and you will start the upgrade process.
Make sure when you are done to delete the upgrade.php file.

To finish the upgrade, you have to go to this in your browser:

yoursite.com/forum/upgrade.php

yoursite.com = your domain

forum/ = the directory where your forum is

how to update now? >:(

Thank You Both -- Sleepy and Junglecat!

For some reason, upgrade.php did not upload with my other files; so I uploaded it.  Based on the URL sample you posted, I loaded upgrade.php to the root directory, not to the SMF directory.  When I loaded http://www.mysite.com/upgrade.php, I got a message that said some of the files were out of date.

Should I just delete the directory and its contents from my server and do a fresh install?  The incorrect files were not identified in the error message; so I don't know which ones didn't get uploaded.  Might I have uploaded the upgrade.php file to the wrong directory?

TIA

That sounds like a good idea.

One more question - since I downloaded the upgrade zip, should I download, unzip and upload the install version of 1.1 Final, or can I use what I've already downloaded?

Thanks, again!

I would just do the upgrade since it has all the files you need. just make sure that you don't upload any files that say settings.php or settings_bak.php that would be bad..

Thanks again, SleePy!

I downloaded and unzipped the 'install' distribution then FTP'd it to my host server (after deleting the entire SMF subdirectory and recreating another one with that name).  I then uploaded the settings.php and settings-bak.php files that I backed up with everything else before starting on this trip.  Now, when I enter www.mysite.com/SMF/install.php in my browser's address window (using my actual url), I get the SMF Installer page asking for some FTP information.  I provided my username and password as requested but still get a message saying that it can't access the FTP server with that information.  The default information for the FTP server was NOT changed; it remains 'localhost' on port 21.  I'm trying to do this install on GoDaddy.com.  Their support desk confirmed my username and password (including confirming which characters are uppercase and which lowercase).  The only other variable I can think of that might be problematic is the FTP server name and port, but GoDaddy couldn't help me with that.

Any ideas?  (I'd ask for suggestions but you might give me the ones I deserve for not remembering how to do all this correctly  8)

Thanks again.

SMF is unable to FTP to your server and chmod the files..
Sadly you are going to have to do this yourself. change permissions on all folders to 777 (or 755 if host don't allow it) and 666 on all files.. Once your settings.php file is setup how you want It I would make it 400 so nothing can edit it..

One more time, SLeePy.  Please?

My FTP tool is Filezilla.  It doesn't have an idiot screen for changing permissions (or at least this idiot has found it if it does).  Can you give me the syntax of the chmod command?  I think I can enter it from a menu option, but man, is it going to be tedious.  Is there a simpler way?

Thanks for all your help!

Server menu-> enter raw ftp command and this:

http://www.computerhope.com/unix/uchmod.htm
or

to change group and owner
http://www.computerhope.com/unix/uchown.htm

But by clicking right button on the file you want to change chmod, you go to file attributes and you'll can...
