Smf has a built in spell checker that can be activated, "Pspell Library". A lot of users will notice it dont work! This is for the simple fact that most web hosting providers do not have the Pspell Library installed on their servers.
The main reason is for the simple fact it eats up a lot of system resources on the server.
So here you have it a simple but yet effective way to keep your board looking professional.
CORRECT SPELLING!
I have only tested this mod on SMF 1.1 RC3  1.1 and 1.1.1
Always remember to generate a backup before you ever install a mod!
Enjoy

Cool, how does it work?  Is there a different 'Spell Check' button somewhere?

seems to be major issues with it..

the highlighting goes in the wrong place half the time.. then when i click to edit.. and select the correct one.. some times it changes the WRONG one.. >.> -shakes her head- sorry. but this one fails..

I dont have this issue

Ive been using  the mod for months

When you have a large post and move the scroll bar then the yellow must move with it.

Its got to call the server that the spell checker is on!!!!!

neskiairti

some of the posts were like 5 pages in word or some such.. so that might cause an issue.. but.. it shouldnt.. when a highlight is 10 lines away and 20 characters offset from the word its supposed to correct.. -shrugs- maybe its a font issue?
but then that doesnt explain the other issue of changing the wrong word.

You just need to find the "Post.template.php" file.

Then search for // Start the javascript... and boy is there a lot.

Before that add

// Add spelling check

echo '
        <script type="text/javascript" src="http://buttercup.spellingcow.com/spell/scayt"></script> ' ;

Save the file then upload it overwriting the old one

Thats it.

I just installed the mod a few days ago. It was working fine, but I just noticed when I go in and edit a thread I get an ad that shows up underneath the spell checker. Is there any way to get rid of this?

Daggers

I added this mod tonight and removed it again after 2 hours following complaints from our members.

After typing a sentence and then adding a smiley the whole sentence disappears, also, when adding bbcode it puts the code at the end of the post and not around the selected text.  :(

If you go to http://www.spellingcow.com/ you'll see that you can use it for 30 days for free then they start to run adds on your site.  Or you can pay the $25 for one year of ad free spell checking.
