Thanks Ace, got it.  I'm leaving town pretty soon - but if I have any success, I'll report back.

Thanks again.

I followed the install to step 8 and get this:

Houston, we have a problem here.

Ummm. I need the forum's Settings.php file to run you know.

You have two choices here:
  1) Copy that file to this directory
  2) Set $portal['smf_path'] in portal_config.php correctly.

I have done both and changed permissions on the file. Any ideas? I really would like to install this and more legitimize the original Author by using his work and giving credit where it's due..

Hello nice people, friends and fair-coders of this community...
I had been looking out for the official SMF Add-On ever since it had first been announced in the news section and just today I did PM David before I even noticed this post, I had overlooked...

First of all I want to thank Kevin for his great work (which I haven't seen yet) and tell him that I fully sympathize with him.
This guy did a terrible thing and I would never use his portal over yours. I was waiting for the Official SMF Add-On and would never use the Official SMF Rip-Off.
I am all with you Kevin_MIP.
I also think Packman replied very gracefully and intelligently to Kevin_MIP's post.

This said I find myself in the position when I must decide if I should use Mambo or if I should install Yauws.
- My understanding is that Yauws is still in beta, is this correct?
- Does it work with SMF 1.0 RC2?
- Will it be further developed now that Kevin_MIP has come out and can count on the developing and testing support of all of us? Or will/was development dropped?
- Can somebody enlighten me as to how it compares to Mambo?

If you could answer these questions I'd be very glad.
Thanks for your help.

Mambo is not fully integrated to my knowledge (??) so I have stopped working with it unless or until it becomes so (Unless I dont know about it) [Fully integrated meaning when someone logs into mambo, they are logged ino my forum.
I too will work on Kevins again here in a couple days. All valid questions concerns I'd say.

I thought that Mambo DOES have an integrated user backend... Can somebody using Mambo confirm whether it is or is not integrated (same user log in etc)?

re: Mambo...

look at the thread in previous post.  Ortsio has done a very nice job creating a bridge. In essence it replaces the Mambo login module. When used, the user is logged in both to Mambo and SMF. I was testing it and it works very nicely. And he continues to improve it I think, possibly in terms of making it even easier to use or install, but it's basically a matter of copying a couple files into your Mambo and SMF installations, and then installing a component and a module in Mambo.. and it's done.

Sorry to hear that, Kevin.  I really despise people who try to take credit for other people's work, especially when a lot of time and effort has gone into it.

If I were you, I think I'd release it and, if you're sure you have the proof you need to discredit this thief, make a very clear statement with the release to that effect, naming him and shaming him.  Then sit back and wait for him to sue you for libel, at which point the truth will out.

Of course the decision is completely up to you, and I can imagine that you're feeling stressed out and pissed off with the whole thing by now, so I wouldn't blame you if you can't be arsed either :)
