@ArkServer
changing the no of random tags to 100 should work, (providing that you have got enough tags stored)

I've been asked for some more examples of sites where this is being used.

Google has been seriously spidered forums bringing alot of traffic to some forums by the looks of some of these forums with it on

Why doesnt it like the word on ?

I searched for this term

"trot on whitby"

Followed it onto the page in my forum and it put the tag as "Trot Whitby"

where did the "on" go ?

karlbenson

it removes common words like;

if it is not no and at as an

Most of these words are useless for search engines anyway.

glennk

karlbenson

no worries.

You can modify the words in the subs.php source file if you must.  But I don't really recommend it.

bjraines

this loaded great for me , but i get liek 200 visitors a day from search engines and no tags have shown up yet

I've just tested it and whereas its showing tags on other forums, its not on yours.

Your host may have something in place which is blocking or clearing the http referer.

I've attached a 'test' file to check whether http referer is being passed.
The file only contains code to produce a link to the file itself, and writes where the http referer does not exist, is not blank or empty. If it exists it will write the http referer out.

Please Upload it to your host.  Then post the link so I can test it.

Good mod. However, how come the search terms appear together instead of with spaces?

LGS, theres a setting with the mod

You can choose to put search terms together or separately. (note once they are together they will remove together)

ok it is loaded

Thanks you for that.
As you'll see if you click the link, its passing the http referer.

You can safely delete that file now.

Are there any errors in your error log?

bjraines

Just this

Undefined index: moderators
File: /home/mychem/public_html/forums/Themes/default/BoardIndex.template.php (eval?)
Line: 99

but i think i get that every time someone visits

karlbenson

bjraines. Good news

I got it to work.  Its been so long since I made this mod, I forgot how it works.

The mod ONLY works if the Google or other search engine visitor enter your site via a topic.
So if they enter your forum from a search engine on ANY part of your forum EXCEPT a topic, the keywords/tags will not be stored.

I think part of the issue here in why you havent received any tags is because you have very few topics spidered by google, yet most peoples profiles/boards etc are all well spidered.

I managed to get some tags added by finding one of your topics in google
eg http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=balance+this+chemistry+site%3Amychemistrytutor.com%2Fforums%2F+&meta=

Then clicking one of your topics which are brought up. (eg result 1)

At the bottom of the topic are the tags which have been added
www.mychemistrytutor.com/forums/index.php?topic=86.0;topicseen

Now your googletagged page has some tags

cool thanks

such a cool mod

what is the code if i want to show the tags say in the ad management mod ?

also would u mind if i PM u a question

karlbenson

If theres a reason why you can't pm whatever it is in the topic, please feel free to pm me.

For each topic the display.php stores the tags for that particular topic as a mulidimensional array $context['tags'] for use on the display.template.php

On the 'googletagged' page the tags are stored in the array $context['googletagged']

I don't believe it would be possible to use that array in the ad management mod because alot of the ad positions of the ad management mod are BEFORE the tags would be called.

bjraines

interesting. i assume SMF buffers and therefor it really shouldn't matter if it comes before or later. maybe not

it would be interesting to see if there was a snippet to show the tags anywhere on the site.

karlbenson

Damn. Wysiwyg editor went wry and missed off half my message.  Here it is.

It would be possible for you to query the database and get all the tags yourself.
That would depend on whether you wanted to show tags for a single topic or across all topics.

At the moment I'm too busy with other mods to provide extra functionality (other than bug fixing).

I checked both xml files and couldn't see anything that needed copied to the languages files for utf8

Stumped (but learning ;) )

Any clues
