My comment about this site is simple: please, no flashing ads.

Ads = OK, flashing = highly distracting and I quit trying to read. I go elsewhere.

Thanks.

H

Was this a Google ad or an ad provided by our ad system? (if when you put the mouseover it says www.simplemachines.org then it is the local system ;))

H, the only one I've seen here that comes to mind, is in smf ad system.

SMF Professional Customization (* or something to that effect).

It is a little distracting, but nothing on the level of flash ads you get on other sites.

Edit:

And I can hardly talk about annoying animation with my avatar ;) lol

TC Carl

Yes it is the SMF Customization Services ad. It is not as bad as some sites, but I don't go to those other sites because of that.

Karl, I've learned to put a post-it note over your avatar. I've yet to train it to scroll up the screen though.

TC Carl.

LOL.

You should be able to disable image animations in your browser if you dislike them.
Although it won't work for flash.

this is an ad paid for by one of our clients, its not something we're advertising as our own service.

That said, yeah it bugs me at times too :P

Please post a video once you've achieved this...
... as well as instructions on training the post-it note to scroll :D

No challenge here - usually my memory is not to be trusted xD
But this time, I've just watched the S19 episodes yesterday with a friend of mine,
so happened to remember. :)

Heh. You cheated, you watched the episode within the last 24 hours. :P

Oh well. At least I still remain the unbeaten, unchallenged Simpsonologist. :P

Anyway, back to the subject at hand.

I intentionally watch the ads for one minute without moving my eyes. It looks like a clock heartbeat, but without any digit. Karl's avatar is like a countdown counter.

Anyway, I don't mind with the ads.

TC Carl

I didn't want to feel like an outsider here, so I've changed my avatar to Homer, as well.

There might be a small version issue here, but we'll work it out in the service pack.

You could always try the adblock extension for firefox, simply block the flash ads you don't like.

Thanks!  I saw the add-on section of FF when I first started using it, but never bothered to explore it.  I've liked FF enough to not tinker. I'll give it a whack.

Indeed just please only block the flashing ads otherwise you're stopping SMF from staying alive :)

Actually, since the flashing red ad is back, I clicked on it just to see what company it was. They will go onto one of my lists.

I have no problem with SMF seeking advertisement revenue. I should have directed my comments at 2by2host.com and I suppose that's the right thing to do.

My site comments should be more positive and contributory, since this is great software.
