After using SMF 2.0 for a few days I would like to congratulate the team for a job well done. I know this is only a beta, but I haven't come across any show stoppers. I wasn't sure about the new menu system in the admin panel, but now I think it is a great feature and prefer it over the old menu.

The most ideal place to see a demo of 2.0 is right here on these forums.

For the admin stuff I suggest installing on a localhost by installing XAMPP.

Alternatively, there is a site (http://www.opensourcecms.com/) which allows you to try out the admin panels of many CMS and forum systems.

It's currently still showing SMF 1.1.4 - I don't know whether they would only use the final version - but it's a very handy site for trying out different software packages.

Alternatively, as has been said, XAMPP or similar on your own computer!

I'll be setting up another test forum in the next few days so our staff can begin familiarising themselves with SMF 2.

We wont actually run it on our public forum until TP 1.0 is ready to roll in conjunction with it.

i mean the theme applied on this community looks cool
smf 2 should have improoved theme
after phpbb3 smf has to work hard on default theme

It's already been discussed and being acted upon. We are working on a semantic version of the current default theme, then a new default theme will be produced.

Why? The upgrade has had very few issues. Simply back up your forum files and database before you do and you'll be fine.

The new software is awesome and takes SMF to a whole new level. I have already started building with it and cant wait till the mods themes and TP catch up to it so i can move my communitys over too 2.0 and with all the new features it will make my life so much easier. Keep up all the great work !!! You all rock !!!

I don't think there's going to be an upgrade package, if that's what you mean. You'll have to do a complete upload of all the files from the Upload choice available on the downloads page.
