How to convert to SMF 2 from SMF 1.1.4 with MySQL (ISAM) DataBase only (without files)?
I installed public release of SMF 2 and I have backup of SMF 1.1.4 DB. A can restore
the backup to SMF 2 DataBase, but it rewrites a new one an it doewn't work.

P.S. Sorry, I'm Russian and I speak English very bad.

you could just do a standard upgrade on the 1.1.4 board.

It's written, that i must run upgrade.php file, but there's no any link on it.

metallica48423

its a file you would have uploaded when you uploaded all of the files.

you know hw you go to index.php to go to your forum.  Go to your forum, but instead of going to index.php, go to upgrade.php

I know ho see files. I already tried it and I see in FTP that there's no any upgrade files. There's only install_2-0_mysql.sql DB file. :(
And there's no upgrade.php in my TAR archive. Where can I get it?

Dragooon

Its in the LARGE upgrade package, not in the install package.

Thank you. I'll install the large package.
But why the LARGE package is only 1.5 MB, when Full Install is 1.6 MB in SAME archive type?

metallica48423

The INSTALL package contains the files necessary to install SMF from nothing.
The UPGRADE Package contains the files necessary to upgrade a forum or to restore the files to their default states.
The UPDATE Package contains only the files changed from the previous release (in this case, 2.0 Beta 2.

You need the "large" UPGRADE Package

I installed LAGRGE package, but it with less weight: only 1.5 MB, smf_2-0-beta3p_upgrade.tar.bz2.
Install package 1.6 MB. It's strange. I untar'ed large package in an empty directory and:

Warning: require_once(/home2/.../Settings.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home2/.../upgrade.php on line 44

How to upgrade without files? Or I must have settings.php from old forum (a have it)?
I uploaded file Setting.php from working empty SMF2 and edited it. Connection to DB was OK, but there's error. I'll try to edit settings.php..

QuoteUpgrading...
Updating Settings.php... Successful.
Updating and creating indexes...
    Updating indexes on "messages"... done.
    Updating table indexes... done.
    Reordering boards and categories... done.
Updating indexes and data on "smileys"... Unsuccessful!
This query:
ALTER TABLE swmf_smileys
ORDER BY LENGTH(code) DESC;
Caused the error:

After "Try again":

Unsuccessful!
This query:
ALTER TABLE swmf_smileys
ORDER BY LENGTH(code) DESC;

I replaced "substep=7;s=1" with "substep=8;s=1" in adress.
In restored forum a saw many errors: half of massages was disappeared,
admin panel of OLD forum and new forum loads tamplates from old forum with old admin panel etc.

There's
QuoteFatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home2/at61free/public_html/swl2/Sources/CustomProfile.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home2/at61free/public_html/swl2/Sources/Load.php(1726) : eval()'d code on line 302
in all messages, and another modifications are incorrect.
What to do to restore correctly WITHOUT using old files and with installed modifications which done changes in DB?

Rumbaar

It might be just easier to perform a full restore of a 1.1.4 SMF forum files/db.  Then perform the full upgrade to SMF 2.0 BETA 3 Public of that 'fresh' install.

But i need to update without changing or copying SMF1.4 FILES. I'll try to wait and use a next version of SMF2.

Gary

It is not possible to upgrade from 1.1.4 to 2.0 without changing or copying files. The only way to upgrade is via the LARGE UPGRADE package, even in future releases of the 2.0 branch.

But i can upgrade with only 1 file - LocalSettings.php? Other files are not important to upgrade, are they?

Dragooon

Every file is important, you can copy it and then upgrade.

sikes

Why? But I've done upgrading without old files!

JayBachatero

The oonly files that you need is Settings.php and Settings_bak.php.  Make sure that you edit them though so that they point to the test databaseand not the live one.  Then just run the upgrade.php.

That would be through the package manager with a minor release such as 1.1.3 to 1.1.4, with 1.1.4 to 2.0 the changes are far too great (literally, every file has been changed) to allow for upgrades that way.
