i got this error while import from SMF

Database Error

what should I do ?

Dianna

Hi Charles,

I'm sorta like the person above....I'm using SMF 1.1.8 and when I try to install the zcommunity v0.7.9 as instructed to upload the files folder first before installing the install folder. I'm trying to upload via the package manager. I'm getting an error message saying the the package is not valid or has become corrupt.

Everyone else seems to be having luck, is it just me?  Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to load the files folder manually via FTP to my server?

andyv123

I have SMF 1.1.8 and I did a manual install with no problems. I do however have problems when I add a new member group, that member group can only see their own blogs they make, even if I set permissions for that member group to be able to view all blogs. I tried this same thing again on a clean install of 1.1.8 with only zcommunity on it, still when I make a new member group, that member group can only view their own blogs and nobody else's. Any suggestions?

Kindred

Dianna,

You do not use the package manager to upload the files archive/folder...    you do that via FTP or your cpanel file manager.

In my heavily modded Forum everything works fine, the import, the permissions, create new blogs, everything.

But i'm waiting until 0.8 is released, because i'm need the custom side blocks.  ;)

And i have 1 question: where can i delete the News. I know where i can post nee News, but i don't see anything to delete News. Maybe i need glasses.  :D :P

Just looked through that code... don't see anything that should be throwing a syntax error.  You sure you updated the zCommunity files?

Kindred is correct.  You have to upload the zCommunity folder from the larger of the two zip archives directly to your forum's main directory.

Each blog has its own list of groups that are allowed access.  When you create a new member group in your forum (after creating a blog or blogs), that new member group is not added to all the blogs allowed groups lists.  You'll have to add them manually.  Can be kind of a pain........ but I am having trouble thinking of a way to easily add the new member group to all the blogs' allowed access lists... I'll keep it in mind until I figure out the best solution.

There should be a delete icon on the news article just like other blog articles.  Mouse over the gear icon and it should be there.

Hi charles , I have some little questions:

1. You can integrate the SMF 2.0 WYSIWYG with the zCommunity?? Is really simple and really I think of will be a nice feature

2. Maybe you should add something like the rate that topic feature or create a plug-in for rate articles

3. Will be pretty a search feature for blogs , I think of the SMF Search can`t find results in blogs

1.  I will look into it eventually.

2.  This will be a plug-in

3.  I will create a search feature from scratch eventually.

PfalzNacht

Oh, i'm sorry.

I use a custom template, and there weren't these buttons.  ;)

andyv123

Why not just have all member groups allowed to view all blogs, then make a field for "not allowed groups"? Also I'm having trouble with allowing these other member groups. I've already set the permissions for them and it still doesn't work - I go to create a new blog with a different member after doing this and the newly created member group can still only view their own blogs. Is this database work that needs to be done? If so what field do I add the member group ID to for it to be allowed?

Go to the Global Blog Settings tab in your control panel... Look for the section "Default Settings for New Blogs" .... you'll see the multi-check setting field for the groups all new blogs will allow access to by default.  After you create a new member group, you have to save this setting again with the new member group checked, so that all new blogs will allow access to that member group.  But like i was saying this is not retroactive to older blogs.

Dianna

Thanks Kindred and Charles.  I just realized that's what I was suppose to do.  So, I just uploaded the _files folder to my root directory where my forum is located. I unzipped the folder and put the entire folder which included the zcommunity folder inside and the readme and license text.  I went through the package manager to upload the install folder.  It looks like it installs okay except I'm getting an error message that says

"Could not locate the necessary zCommunity files. Database edits failed!"

andyv123

I was able to edit a couple files to ensure all my custom usergroups would be able to view the new and old blogs, yay!

On the blogs settings, how can I remove the articles and comments, and social bookmarking options from displaying? Also the save button for changing the ownership of a blog (the save button displays for everyone I noticed)

I'm almost finished with what I'm working on and I've been making the user interface alot more intuitive as my site's targeted to primarily kids (which meant removing alot of options). if anyone would like to see the end result let me know and I'll post images.

Hi, I don't have the time to sift 64 pages so I'll just post my problem. If the answer is posted, please just post a link to the answer instead of biting my head off.

I've used the parser on the mod page to manually edit my custom theme's index.template.php . For some reason the "blogs" link does not appear. I've attached a screen shot.

Any help is much appreciated.

Yes, I'm sure.
I've tried uninstall, re-download & re-install. still have the same problem

while ($_REQUEST['start'] < $max_moderators)
{
// get all moderators
$request = $zcFunc['db_query']("
SELECT {tbl:moderators::column:id_member} AS id_member
FROM {db_prefix}{table:moderators}
WHERE {tbl:moderators::column:id_board} = {int:board_id}
AND {tbl:moderators::column:id_member} > " . $_REQUEST['start'] . "
Line 248 --->    AND {tbl:moderators::column:id_member} <= " . $_REQUEST['start'] + $increment, __FILE__, __LINE__,
array(
'board_id' => (int) $board
)
);

Geez Link...    so just because you're feeling lazy, we shouldn't be? :P

Anyway, you have two choices   a) You did not actually put the correct code into your theme's index.template.php and/or b) You are using something other than "English" (and English UTF-8 is not the same as "English")

I'm using english because 90% of the mods don't have proper language files for utf-8 and it's annoying making them myself. I'll attach my index.template.php .

Kindred

hmmm....   the code looks right.   The only other thing I can think of.   Does your custom theme have a modifications.english.php in it?

I also got error message after installing zCommunity. My SMF version is 1.1.8. I upload first the _files file at my FTP and extract it in my cPanel. Have I done it right? Then install the smf_install file to my smf package manager. If I click the zCommunity control panel at my admin settings, this error appears..

Nope, only ThemeStrings.english.php and english/french files for smg. I do really want to sort this out. If anyone thinks they can fix it, I'll hook you up with an admin account and ftp access.

Try to run the install_db_edits.php file directly from your forum's main folder.  Upload it to your forum's root directory and then access it directly with your browser.

Well zCommunity has its own language file system... So even if you don't have a lang file for your language, it'll default to english (which is included with zCommunity).  I'm assuming the Blogs menu tab shows up for your default theme?  If not you should check to make sure the edits were made properly to your forum's index.php file.  If it does show up for the default theme then would you mind copy/pasting a large chunk of your custom theme's index.template.php so that I can see what the problem might be?

I had the thought the other day to make zCommunity almost infinitely flexible in that you can allow all the options possible, just ones you need, or almost none.  I've been overhauling a lot of things from 0.7.9 to 0.8.0, so it should be a lot easier to accomplish this.

This is a new one... I have yet to see this error, so I don't have a solution for you at the moment.

It shows up fine with the default theme.
