add smf menubar to coppermine gallery

I'm trying to add the smf menubar to coppermine via SSI. I'm following the instruction given at coppermine that tells me to edit the pageheader function in theme.php.
Everything is fine except that even if i've already logged on, it still show: " home | search...| login | register"  instead of " home | search...| logout" . In other words, it still thinks that i'm  a guest.
Please show me how to fix this problem.

Make sure you're not using local cookies and you are using subdomain indendent cookies.

How do you know which cookies are being used?

It's under Edit Features and Options in the admin center.  Everyone will have to log out and back in for it to take effect.
