Suddenly "500 Internal Server Error"  ::)

Worked fine, till one day (today) i waked up and did get this error massage, instead of the smf forum.

What could case this? Could it be any kind of hackers attack?

Did write to my host support, but i don't think they can help me, since there is only smf not working on the server, and the rest of the site is working.

Tried to use the search but the only matching topic i found was in Turkish and the rest is not really talking about my problem.

So. Where sould i start solving the problem?

That is the link to the smf forum : http://smf.hikingbike.org/

Thanks

Run repair_settings.php and see if you can get any info from that.

What is repair_settings.php?

Thanks for the reply

I ran it and try to change some settings like compression/maintains mode /something else mode/ ... still no luck..

It could be a permissions issue. Have you checked the file permissions?

Im not sure what you are talking about. What is that file? and what permission has to with it?

jazz1

If you mean permission settings, how can it be changed suddenly by itself? Is it possible  at all?

The smf directory is 755

Permissions can be changed if your host has changed certain configurations. You should also check with your host to see whether they have changed anything during the night before.

I can login to phpmyadmin
I can access html (from other subdomain)
Mediawiki working from the main domain (same server).

Is this what you asked?  ::)

You could check the date/times on the SMF files to see if any have been tampered with since yesterday

JLHC:
Here is the list of some files from the smf folder and its permissions. Take a look on it, files has fewer permissions then folders..

riker:

What files should i check? may be something in the database?

Yes, I tried to change some of it to 777 then changed it back

Look through the rest to see if you can see anyting else that has been done today or yesterday.  If you don't find anything then it's back to your host

jazz1

I created the htaccess, then used repair (think it changed the settings.php file .. )

jazz1

OK, ill take a look at rest of files .. any suggestions were should i look? any specific  folder may be?

jazz1

Deleted the .htaccess from main folder, from "cache" folder, and from "attachments" folder (renamed)

Forum still offline.

There is an idea to install a fresh' smf2 and set it to the old database. Is this possible  at all? What are steps to do it?

Thanks!

Bad news

Installed fresh smf2 installation in different path on different prefix (smf2_) on the same database. Then i ran the reapir, and changed the prefix to the  smf_

Try to run the forum, the same error i get - 500 Internal Server Error

That means that the problem is in the database? What can i try next?
