Is there an option that allows guests to take quizzes?

The short answer is no. The link in my signature should let anyone who is a member of this forum download the file. I have logged out of FileFactory and it works when I click on it.

If you mean can it be done from a site member who can use the quiz on another site the answer is no only admin can export quizzes.

I'm surprised the option to allow guests to play hasn't been incorporated. I know they're different mods, but SMF Arcade allowed for this and the recording of scores, which I think increased forum engagement back when I had it.

Arantor

The question he answered wasn't the one you asked. His answer related to the download he provided, not whether the quiz mod supports guests.

Thing is, you could always try it to find out...but since it isn't listed as a feature, I'd suggest it probably isn't, and guest anything is fragile since you have no way to reliably track anything.

'Study Force' your comment 'guests to take quizzes' I read as guests being able to download the quizzes rather than play them.

The mod does not allow guests to play the quizzes, there is only one permission in the settings for guests and that's to view the quiz only.

Wow, haven't logged on here for many years and can't believe the mod is still being used and is (to some extent) working. Hope you're enjoying it.

It's a great Mod. It should not be laid to rest and the biggest challenge now is to make this more mobile friendly. My wish and hope is someone can do this.

Just to reiterate my view on this

1. I created this mod a long time ago
2. I didn't have the time to work on it anymore
3. Instead of just deleting the mod code, I was happy for anyone to take it forward with no caveats from me
4. I am not responsible if people want to use this mod and it exposes any security holes or other issues on their site
5. Happy to state this somewhere else if appropriate and make anything else clear if needed

Hope that may clear things up

Thanks

jack001

will it work for smf 2.1?

Hi Diego,

Yes, I just did it to show jack001 what happens when you try to install to 2.1.

I installed this on my 2.0.17 forum but had to manually uninstall it because it was on my installed package list. Everything is working fine since I manually uninstalled but I can figure out how to get rid of the "quiz_maintenance" from the Scheduled task menu...

If you don't want it to run just take the tick out the box under 'Enableld' and click on 'Save Changes'

Yeah I know that but I'd like to get rid of it completely...less clutter! ;)

You'd need to remove the task from Scheduled tasks table I think

All please note that Microsoft 'Edge' will not be supporting Flash from the end of the year. I have also read that Chrome and Firefox will be going the same route. Which means that the Quiz will not work on those browsers. Whether other browsers will work I have no idea.

Below is a screenshot of the warning .

These browsers already have Flash disabled by default and after December are removing it entirely. This was known and reported widely in the tech press well over a year ago.

I appreciated that Arantor. I was posting this for when someone who doesn't come here that often or hasn't seen the notifications. They will come here and probably post asking why it's not working.

An update for those who want to install this mod on SMF 2.0.18.

With the creation of 'Ruffle' an alternative to flash it is now possible for everyone to enjoy playing the quizzes again. Adding Ruffle to your forum root and a few template modifications the quiz will work again for all users using Edge or Firefox both have been tested.

I have tested this on my test site today and it's running fine with no errors.

If you have the quiz installed and you haven't been able to play it since the demise of flash then please feel free to click on the link in my signature. It's a free download with no pups, adverts and no viruses.

The file content will help you to get your existing quiz back up and running or will allow you to install the quiz from scratch.

It contains how to instructions, the original quiz mod file which can also be downloaded form here https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1650 if you prefer.

I want to thank all those associated with 'Ruffle' without them playing flash quizzes and arcade games would not be possible unless you want to change your browser.

Just wanted to point out that in your instructions it says
Quote6. Go to your sites cPanel and access your database tables (don't forget to backup the database) and delete the 'smf_quiz_category' table
and then
Quote8. Go back to your database and and whilst in your forum database where the quiz has been installed 'Run SQL query on database' if you're using 'cPanel/PhpMyAdmin' it should be the second tab at the top of the page, it just says 'SQL' click on it and add the Notepad++ copied table into the box provided, you can only use Ctrl+v, then click on OK to run the query...this should add the 'smf_quiz_category' table to your database.

But folks should know that they need to change the "smf" prefix to whatever there database prefix is before running the SQL. Took me a minute to figure that out lol! ;)

Also after playing around and testing I finished a quiz and when submitting a score i get this error:
QuoteAn unexpected parser error has occurred while retrieving data from the server. Please contact the server administrator and inform them of this error.
Although the score WAS recorded!

And then at the top it says "You have the following outstanding Quiz Sessions to be completed:" but the quiz was played and recorded!

Edited to mention: I uploaded with admin account and played with a user account.
