Ok, dont worry this isnt a thread asking what a charter member is, i already know...ive been to the page and researched it and everything. However, my question is about the name. Where does Charter come from, and what does it mean? I was thinking of having a similar system on my SMF forum, where people who donated to the company got special privelages and a snazzy colored username. So, if the "Charter User" or "Charter Member" is allowed, I would like to use the system at my site, if not ill come up with something different.

thanks :)

why would it not be allowed on your forum!?!?

anyway... Charter means that you are getting a right, power or use of something for a fee... in this case, myself and other charter members are getting higher level of support, first access to beta's and access other boards... for a fee!

lawyers? Do you guys get a lot of law suits or something? :-\

[Unknown]

No, but licenses and legal procedures don't grow on trees.  Further, we do have people cause problems from time to time and we may have to persue legal action in some cases.

This project wasn't just thrown together... a lot of effort has gone into it, and legal counsel on matters has to be sought sometimes.

I just joined as a Charter Member (about 5 minutes ago) and I am proud of it.

I think the efforts of the SMF team are highly commendable! And a small contribution of $50 to help fund their efforts is really next to nothing. I would like to encourage other SMF users or users-to-be to search their hearts to do the right thing. Forgo a few packets of smokes or a few beers, and support the SMF team with a Charter Membership!

Just be aware after joining as a Charter member that it might take a few days to get activated.  I believe they must still do it manually (found a prior thread on the forum about it having been done that way in the past).

I purchased my charter membership on late Friday afternoon and am not yet activated.  I imagine it will take until Monday for someone to be available to do so.  I just wanted to mention in case you were worried that because you didn't get an email from Lewis Media itself (just the PayPal confirmation) that anything had gone wrong with the membership.

I too have just forked over the folding stuff just today and am looking forward to the free gift.

....What!! no free gift  :D

But seriously, I have had so much expert advice in the last few weeks setting up my board that a mere US$50 is easily the best value I have seen on ANY software package in the last several years.

Maybe a badge then? or one of those cheap McDonalds happy set toys....?   :)

Nope, no happy meal toy... but it looks to me like you got the badge ;)

Yes, I orderd on Friday too, and I am still waiting for the changes to be made. As I can imagine that this is not on prio one for simplemachines to set up my account I wonder if there can not be made small and effizient changes in the way the members are activated.   ::)

I know its one businessday until now, but for me it is already half a week I am waiting.  ;D

Strange.  It should be much quicker than that.  Have you contacted Jeff Lewis?
