This mod has been abandoned since a long time. Potential developers have all been scared away from this mod, as some people around here feel so smart that they seem to insist that this mod is only for warez forums. I feel sick from seeing all that arrogance and ignorance.

Here is an example of this mod's legal use (and i am sure that there are plenty of other cases to support the need for renewed development in this project): I have a discussion board and my members want to post their creations, art or music compositions of their own, but i cannot possibly afford years of uploads to be hosted on my shared forum package, so i have to encourage my members to make use of file hosting services, like rapidshare, hotfile, depositfiles, etc. What's wrong with having a link checker in my case?? All other major forum softwares have a proper link checker.

SMF stands out, yet again, at the very bottom of the slope with extremely poor leadership and vision.

SMF is no better or worse in that case, since mod authors do move on over time - but it IS hurt by its long dev cycle for 2.0 since many mod authors aren't going to update mods for RCs.

Once 2.0 final comes out, some of the trend will be reversed as some will return to update their mods. Others will update from 1.1.x to 2.0. But the bulk of the damage has been done, and a large proportion of the damage is related to how hard it is to work on SMF mods, simply because of the manual patching.

The crap attitude mod authors get is common to all platforms where people expect something for nothing, which applies to every one of the free platforms out there, especially since if the mod authors tell those (those who demand what they can get) where to go, they get accused of having a bad attitude. (Been there, done that, got the t-shirt)

The real test will be SMF 2.1, and whether mod writing gets easier to do without code modifications (i.e. mods are more likely to work across versions without having issues, and especially theme issues) - because if it does, and it doesn't take forever to happen, the situation is likely to be salvagable. I wouldn't call it recoverable, necessarily, but certainly something can be salvaged - if the team can design, build and publish something worth drawing users in with.

Of course, this is why SMF is being forked once 2.0 final comes out with its licence change... so that those brave enough to give it a shot are doing so.

You'll be lucky if someone does any development for this mod before 2012 (i assume that's when SMF will cease to exist, since it's almost out of faithful developers).

this rc has just went on way to long for a forum site i am ready to change to a differance forum to you get a mod that someone does then they just piss it away by not keeping it going on

okay i can understand that but then why not let somebody else take it over or let them update it instead of the bs that you always hear that the mod has been abandon and so on and that smf wont allow anyone to mess with it

it could be put in the statement or what ever that hey if you don't keep your mod up then it will be taken over by someone else simple as that.

how many years now has this rc been going on such a nice board and it loses more and more do to ****** like this.

Hi, this mod work very well on SMF 2 gold final with a premium theme, I use it. The link is checked and PM send (just a little probleme, the PM is send but the texte doesn't show but i don't think it very difficult to correct this, perhaps an error in my french traduction). I have not had time to look in detail the cause of the bug.

This mod bugs, it works sometimes but after few days, it detects deadlinks that they are not... And spam users for nothing ..

I think your server has a bad connection (which causes your bugs), this mod works well on a dedicaced server. Bug may occur when the connection is not done with the MU checker (bad connection or too much traffic / no enough resource). But with a dedicated server and a good connection, there is no problem. On thousands link  only 4 / 5 are false positive. (the link is good but indicated false).

I will put the mod that I use but I do not remember if I am making manual changes or not, the mod is hard translated in french, and I have change the mod, it send PM with a user with avatar not as guest. You must create a user and changes ID and name in AutoLinkChecker-Subs.php before install it:

red: ID and name of your new user bot.

It's work but the body of the PM don't show (perhaps an traduction error).

Don't forget to put the image and CSS ligne in tour theme.
