Simple check box - Hide post from Guests

I have looked around for a simple mod to "hide post from guests"

Basically there is an area that is open for guests to view members postings.  I would like to allow members to check off a check box in their post that allows them to hide their post  from guests.

I know there is a mod out there that allows a member to hide their post login, karma, post count etc.  I just need something more simple.

I've got a mod pending that kind of does what you've after - not fully, admittedly - where it provides a [member] tag for member-only content, which never gets shown to guests. It's still with the customization team for approval however.

Well the simpler the better I say.  I know for me posting in a forum is easy and I have alot of dummies so I need something simple like a check box.  I know there is a hidden tag mod out there.

This is just a case of clicking a button and it inserts the [member][/member] tag for them. In terms of user effort... no difference.

The thing is, writing it as a tick box (as I found out a couple of weeks back) actually makes it suddenly a LOT of work to deal with.

All they have to do is press the little coloured man icon (as opposed to the grey man, which is guests-only visible) and just make their post.

Oh, it's been done a couple of weeks but it's waiting for the customizer team to approve.

There is, as far as I know, nothing wrong with it, so I don't mind attaching it here.

Arantor, I just tested that on 1.1.10 and it's fine except for one flaw (IMHO). If something is typed inside the guest tags it will not display to a logged in admin. Presumably the same applies to moderators. This could be open to abuse and could make moderation difficult, because staff have no way of seeing the content without quoting or editing the post.

Hmm, what should it do for displaying to admins?

Well personally I would like to display the raw BBC to staff groups if possible. That way if anyone is trying to be sneaky you will not only see the relevant text but you will see that they tried to hide it from logged in staff. That would be the best option if it isn't a PITA for coding or load times.

ETA: Other option is just to get rid of the guest tag. I'm not sure there would ever be any use for it.

Just out of interest what was the idea of having a guest tag anyway? I can see the point of the member tag but the other one stumps me a bit.

I don't know. It just seemed logical at the time. But that was over 2 weeks ago (yeah, mod queue is pretty big right now I believe)

Ok I set this up on a test forum and it looks interesting...

I have 2 suggestions:

1 - can you set it up for members only removing the guest tag
2 - can a message be displayed in the post "You have to login/register to see this post"

I would absolutely love this mod if those 2 things were in it.

May as well remove the guest tag from it and just be done with it.

EDIT: Oh wait, now I remember why I added the guest tag in the first place - that was the user request I originally filled.

Ok gave that a try on my test forum and poof 500-server not found.

Replaced with the back up subs.php and everything is back.

Whatever change was in the subs.php caused the forum to quit working.  I looked at the line but I don't know much about php so.
