So I am browsing the mod site earlier - http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/
and I see this:
QuoteFeatured Mods
Custom Board Sort By: akabugeyes
This mod allows you to go edit a board in Admin / Boards and set a custom sort order that is different from the default order when you view the board's message index. You can have particular boards be sorted by: Last postStarted byLast postRepliesViewsFirst postSubject and you can have it in ascending or descending order. Users can still change the sorting of the board just as they were before.

So thinking 'this looks interesting', I clicked and realized the most recent version is for 1.1.5! http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=382
Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea to show featured mods, even random mods, but maybe limit it to current versions?  :-\

Arantor

It'd probably work on 1.1.10 with little or no extra effort.

But yeah, this is something that perhaps could be looked at.

(What about having any of mine featured? :P)

For the record, practically everything that'll work on 1.1 Final through to 1.1.9 will work on 1.1.10, without any changes at all. People just don't update the entries to say that they'll work.

So basically, just go ahead and install the mod anyway. :P

You can also use Version Emulate Dropdown to convince the package manager for some mods, too.

Gary

Well, I wouldn't say that's even required. Just stick ;version_emulate=[COMPATIBLE VERSION] on the end of the package managers URL. :P (Without square brackets, mind)

Sure you can do that, but isn't having a dropdown a touch easier? Having tried talking users through version_emulate, I wrote that mod to make life easier for everyone.

Gary

Depends really. I cant see it being any easier like you have to emulate two different versions for some reason. You'd have to go into the dropdown twice, when in the URL, though you have to do it twice, can just change a character or two, and be done it with it. with only with quite literally, two clicks, not six.

Each to their own though. :P

I'm thinking of the user experience. Users like friendly dropdown boxes because it's 'easier'.

Yes sure they are but for me I will chose which one that easier for me to install or customize.

Arantor

nextz77, quite true - would you rather install a mod by manually editing the URL, or having a mod that avoids that by providing a convenient dropdown? (That was the specific example we were discussing)
