About an hour ago, I access this site. Unfortunately it is under upgrade. An hour later I revisit it and thought I went to the wrong site  :P

Is this theme the so-called curve?

If so, it's absolutely great! Good job SMF!  ;D

Eleglin

It looks very simple and modern, and so efficient.
Keep the good work ! :)

It is Curve indeed, the new theme that is available to Charter Members in SMF 2.0 RC2, and will be available to all of you when RC2 goes public. :)

Antechinus

Yes, this is Curve. Glad you like it. :)

Warrantica

Wow, can't wait to get it   :D

Love the "stars"

Eh, I like the old design. But this one is nice too. Egad Forums has the same theme too. Also shouldn't you guys make a new default theme in a newer version of Smf in the future too? And DO NOT ask me why I keep saying too :D

Yes, there will most likely be new default themes in the future of SMF, but not soon, as Curve just made it out ;)

ameo

Nice, but for me it bugs the selection bar at the top.

Theme in action. Great one! Looks really different. I feel like total newness around here now :P

klumy

I agree, really great theme

I've already voiced some of the issues I have with Curve in other topics - particularly regarding the inconsistent use of certain design elements across different pages (and sometimes even on the same page) - but now that I see the theme for the first time on an active forum, another concern has presented itself.

People talk about how "clean" and "simple" the design is, but personally, I was almost shocked when I saw how busy it is in places. Take the Message Index for example:

Thanks to the different background colour given to locked topics, they attract far too much attention compared to regular ones - if anything, locked topics should stand out less! The effect of the grey text/links from the previous sm.org theme was pretty much spot on in my opinion. Same goes for sticky topics. They don't become any more or less important whether they are locked or not, so unless the goal is to make them more distracting, there's really no advantage in giving a different background colour to locked sticky topics.

For comparison's sake, you can look at http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=1.0;theme=10 and http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=1.0;theme=1 to see what I mean.

And what's with the redundant locked and sticky icons? One indicator should be more than enough. Child Boards on the Board Index also suffers from this problem. New posts are already indicated by bolding the link, so why clutter up the design with the addition of the new.gif image???

As I've said before though, I think Curve has the potential to be a really great default theme, but at least in my opinion, there's A LOT of polishing left to do...

Good points. I'm inclined to agree about the locked topics, although personally I think sticky topics should be highlighted slightly.

I think if a thread is locked and stickied it makes sense to indicate this in comparison to one that is open but sticky or locked but not sticky. With the new post indicators, some people will want them. At least Curve has the option built in. Personally I'll probably ditch them once I start customising the theme.

ascaland

Ahh Curve. What a beautiful theme.
