I just installed SMF 1.1.11 and it was successful but it will not load the homepage untill I include /forum, i.e www. NaijaCyberForum. com/forum. Pls, what can I do?

Another problem is while I was trying to look for solution, under my Admin setting, I went to Server Setting and I remove /forum from the URL box. Since then my forum will only load the homepage and no other page will work. If I click a link on the homepage, it will show this error:
can't find /index.php
Pls help!

hadesflames

if you need to go to /forum then that means your files are in ./forum

if you want to access it without /forum you need to move your files to the root directory, then upload repair_settings.php to fix all of the urls and paths.

What is repair_settings.php?

oyedepo1

I appreciate your quick response but don't mind the way I sound (I'm not a techie), pls how do I move the files from /forum to the Root Directory without affecting the site?

hadesflames

just go into ftp

How do I use FTP? / What is FTP?

and move the files inside the forum folder into the folder that the forum folder is in. Then do what I said above with the repair_settings.php tool.

oyedepo1

Okay. So where can I find the repair_settings.php?

hadesflames

You need to redirect your domain url from http://www.naijacyberforum.com/ to http://www.naijacyberforum.com/forum/ if you want that things should appear up when you type in http://www.naijacyberforum.com/

As I don't know what control panel you operate, I cannot give you any direction's.

Kindly let me know your control panel and I can give you directions.

Furthermore, your first post does not tell us anything about your problem. Next time please be specific on what you want.

I appreciate your help. I can understand that the files are been uploaded into the folder forum. But I want to move/copy to the root directory so that I won't have to type the /forum. The problem now is how to copy those files in the forum folder.

The 2nd problem is, if I type www. naijacyberforum. com/forum, it will load the homepage but if I click on anything else on the homepage, it'll show 'can't find /index.php?'

Someone suggest I should upload repair_settings.php but I don't know where to find it.

Or what do you think I should do?

oyedepo1

I don't understand what type of control panel I'm using?

I think what I know is that it's Linux not Windows, it support PHP and MySQL. That's all I know.

Just move all your files from /forum to root directory and run repair_settings in that case.

You can find it here: What is repair_settings.php?

The highlighted repair_settings.php in that post, click on it and it will take you to the download page.

hadesflames

oyedepo, if you don't explain to us what it is exactly that you don't understand, it becomes pretty much impossible to help you. You need to help us help you.

JimM

Just curious, did you install the forum?

I like having my forum files all in one directory but like you I didn't want my members to have to type the /forum so I did this.

In your public_html directory create a file called index.php

That file would contain this:

<?php
header
("Location:http://www.naijacyberforum.com/forum");
?>

You may have to experiment with the trailing / after forum.  You will also want to change your forum URL in your SMF AdminCP to what it was originally and things should start working again.

After this is in place your members will only have to type http://www.naijacyberforum.com to get to your forum.

Oh, now I've gotten the repair_settings.php. Thanks.

Now the problem is, how do I move the files inside the forum folder coz the FTP Client (FileZilla) I'm using don't have that fuction. Whenever I connect my FTP Client to the server, it brings out the forum folder but not the root directory. Help pls!

Pls don't refer me to any manual coz I've read every available manual on FTP Client but none specify exactly how to do it.

oyedepo1

It's no more a problem. I can now go to my Forum without the /forum included. I moved the Files from the Forum Folder into the public html thru my cpanel. I then uploaded the repair_settings.php and everything got solved.

Thanks to all the gurus and experts that have contributed to the success.

I appreciate you all.
