I've been working with Mybb for a few years now. My one main forum is still Mybb, but I decided to kill off a slow board that I had and start from scratch. Working with SMF is great. Things like the newsletter feature, ease of setting up permissions for the forums. Way simpler. Plus the themes are nicer (in my opinion)
I'm a mother of five, and having something so simple and effective is totally cool.
I was really surprised at how easy it was to set up. I'm still learning my way around it, I'm having a bit of problems with uploading logos, but there's always a bit of a learning curve when starting something new.
haha, and this forum was a great stop... I came across it yesterday, read a bit, decided to run SMF, and even found my new host (aspirationhosting) through here. It was a productive visit for sure.
Keep up the good work, whoever the brains are behind all this.

Sincerely,
Shilo

Glad you are enjoying SMF. The dev. team puts a lot of hours in trying to perfect it.

These words are always very motivational to us also. :)

Welcome moonrise,  :)

I once worked on a forum using phpBB (the therapy I needed afterwards cost me a fortune).

Totally agree, it's easy to forget how good SMF is until you sign as a member to another forum using different software then go bonkers trying to navigate around it.  ???

As another example, I added the Simple Portal today and was stunned at how easy it was.
And a far better set up than the portal I use with Mybb. I'm totally not bashing Mybb, they have their points too, and my other forum is very nice, but as an admin, their mass email (newsletter here at SMF) and banning, as well as other things, are just a pain. Also, the one step upload of zip files, right to the Admin is much nicer than the way I had to do it at Mybb.
Very cool!

I am glad that you liked it. :)

I used MyBB for a short time and I'm glad I stuck with SMF instead. SMF isn't perfect but it's a lot better than anything else I've used. That includes IPB, MyBB, PhpBB, PunBB and a few others that I don't even remember the names of.

Care to explain what you don't like about SMF and what would make it perfect?

I'm not putting you on the spot, I'm just curious.

Actually, they're mostly little things. My number one gripe is that clicking on smilies to add them to posts, automatically jumps them one space from the last character typed before the smiley. Newbies tend to type a character right after the smiley which negates the whole thing. :D Like this.
Oh crap! I guess you guys finally fixed this somewhere along the SMF 2.0 trail. I'm still running  1.1.11 on my forums. :-[

So I guess there may be a lot of fixes in SMF 2.0 that I'm not aware of. I have played around with RC2 and RC3 in test forums but didn't really notice much. I guess I should have gone in deeper.
Nonetheless, I will not upgrade until it goes gold and most of my mods become compatible. So I now change my comments to: SMF will be a lot closer to perfection if you folks would get 2.0 gold out and the mod writers upgrade their mods to work on it. ;D

We unfortunately can't force mod writers to update their mods, although we should beable to. ;)

I understand that. I was just telling you my opinion of a perfect SMF but you and I know that nothing is ever perfect. ;D
