Cannot Highlight anything in the forums.
« on: July 18, 2010, 12:39:54 PM »
Hi,

I'm using SMF 2.0 RC2

In IE8 I am unable nor any other members to highlight any text within the forums.
This happened since 2 days ago.. I am not sure what is causing the problem.

the website is www.uniquez-home.com
Its really bugging me as I am unable to highlight and copy things simple with just my mouse.

I checked the error log I'm only getting these 2 errors.

Code: [Select]
Apply Filter: Only show the error messages of this URL
http://www.uniquez-home.com/v2/index.php?action=post;topic=1795.10;num_replies=10
Apply Filter: Only show the errors with the same message
8: Undefined index: js_description
Apply Filter: Only show the errors from this file
File: /home/c740015/public_html/v2/mymod/smiley.php
Line: 127

Apply Filter: Only show the errors from this file
File: /home/c740015/public_html/v2/Themes/default/GenericMenu.template.php (summary sub template - eval?)

Which mods do you have installed?
Which theme are you using?

I have lot of mods installed..
But I recently uninstalled 1 mod.
Which was Empireofthesuns talkbox.
Because its a resource eater and my VPS does not agree with it,
Then went on to installing neo's shoutbox..

I edited the index.template in the RAVEN theme
to remove the NEW shoutbox I enabled and still the problem is there.
The problem only started after uninstalling the talkbox and installing the new ShoutBox.

I dunno what has happened to suddenly make these errors appear.
Unless I'm missing something.

Can anyone help me with this issue.. Its having a massive impact on my forums.
People are unable to highlight text to change the color or make it embed the image tags or anything else.

Help would be greatly appreciated

Just visited your forum.

I even used IE (SPIT!)

The bits of your forum that I could get to, as a guest, I could copy without any hassles.

That was using compatibility mode and not.

So, as you might imagine, I'm stumped.  ::)

Obviously, though, I couldn't get to try and copy/paste posts, as a guest.

Hmm how was you able todo that.. By double clicking? Yeah thats the only way but I can't highlight by click move mouse
So I can't highlight just the text I want highlighted. Its makes making posts a long task..
:(

I was simply just trying to highlight the text I want and its not working for me..
Hmm. You saying you can do that?

kk I cleared cache and everything.. I am still unable to highlight text.
If your just double clicking a sentance thats no use.

I mean I cannot select what text I want highlighted using my mouse by clicking and moving the mouse to what text I wan't highlighted.
I checked in both compatability and normal mode.

I simple cannot just highlight what text i want.
I can double click and it will highlight the whole sentance.. I wanna just highlight a word or a groupd of words maybe half.
Its impossible because its broken.

I have no idea what could be causing the issue :(

When did this start happening? I think you may have installed a faulty mod. Can you list all your installed mods?

Well, I can't select text in posts, obviously, because guests can't see any posts.

I could copy/paste this, though.

Yeah I was using a talkbox that was killing my resources from the my VPS. So I had to uninstall this and install nenoe Shoutbox.
Ever since then problems have occured.

I have even removed all the code from the index.template to remove the Shoutbox and the problem is still there.

I have checked appache for what errors are in there and all I am getting there is 404 errors for the old TalkBox.
Which is strange I checked all the code in index.php and index.template.php and there is no code that could be asking for it.
So Im confused and stuck.

How about creating a new board that we can access, so we can check it out?

If you switch to the SMF default theme, is the problem still there?

Hmm.. Yeah I switched to the default theme and everything is fine.. But obviously my forum is not set up to use the default theme.
All the colours are backwards lol.

Hmmmm...
So its my index.template then?
Could some one have a look at it for me?

Also Id like to state.. When I installed the NEW shoutbox. I was searching on the new and found a mod that will make it look better.
So at the bottom of my script there is some collapse thing that's supposed to be on the shoutbox..
Thing is I don't have the collapse thing there. But I tried to take away that part of the code without it messing up the style of the shoutbox and it would either remove the whole frame or make some weird back ground  behind the shoutbox.. I just wanted the box :(

I'm just off to bed, as it 'appens.

If nobody else comes-in, in the meantime, I'll check it out, tomorrow.

That IS the template from the theme and not the default one, yes?

It could be any of the template files, did you read the comments on the support topic for the theme?

Maybe the issue is in the theme itself

Hmm.. Actually I managed to fix it and got rid of the errors that IE was spitting out.

It seemed that this line was causing the problem. After uninstalling the TalkBox it left this line in there.

<body onmousemove="resetCounter();" onload="countDown();"
>';

I changed this line to

<body>';

That fixed my issue no more errors :D

Apart from 2 I am getting in my error log.which is always making it go into the thousands everyday,

Could u help me with these undefined index's?
