Placement of SMF directory

I have installed SMF 1.1.11 and it is running just fine.  Very easy install via my host fantastico option.

The question I have is:

Is there a "safer" place to locate the directory, and if so why and where, instead of where I have it located in the WWW folder on my hosting account?

Or is there simply no reason to even think about it in terms of safety from someone being able to get to that directory and files?

The installation directory has no effect on any security/safety issue

It a point of requirement, thats all. if you want your forum in main domain then put it in www or public_html directory , if you want tit in site.com/community/ then in "public_html/community"
