I know there are already a MOD for this feature, but I think this should be a default feature.

Why?

Let's see the official simplemachines forum. there are a lot of resolve issues about some problems, It would be cool if I can bookmark those If I have (or know that will have in the future) a similar problem.

Just an idea  ::)

Suki

You can do that already with your favorite browser  or use a bookmark site like delicious.

Thank you for the proposal. Bookmarking can be solved... plain bland bookmarking. However, this reminds me somehow of a customizable tagging feature. I know you didn't say that. :)

I'd note that somehow, the notification feature was and can be used for the same purpose you basically ask for... Since it offers a view in the profile, to see the topics you're asking to be notified about, and by that, a way to "bookmark". No way to bookmark under a different mark, though. The notification feature has its limits.

How else can this be done?
Tagging would go like this (roughly):

  • The user can use tags defined by others/admins (or the defaults for the forum). If they can define them themselves, it may be more useful and much more thinking required to avoid being confusing or too wide to be useful actually.
  • They can "tag" a topic with their chosen tag.
  • Those tags are visible in their profile
  • They can go to their profile later and choose one of the tags: a different view opens, where they see the topics tagged

How to view them... there are more possibilities, very different. From a plain ole' view, where topics under the 'tag' are listed, to a completely different view of boards and topics. At the end of the day, the abstraction of a "tag" is only a generalization of the idea of boards and categories, for categorizing stuff. If you make a thinking experiment and take this idea to its limits.

I think tagging can be a very powerful mechanism. I haven't figured out yet how exactly it should all behave, to get the most of flexibility without being too much or getting into the "confusing" area. I think of it more like a label, than other uses of the word "tag". If you label some topics in a particular way, what you're actually doing is establish a way to categorize them for your later use. To come back and click on it, and see only those filtered. If they're shared with others (i.e. defaults of the forum), they basically mean categorizing topics not only per boards (which implies visibility/access), but per content alone... Of course the respective view (of the topics under a tag/label) would only display visible topics.

I know this isn't what you said. I'm just using this topic to brainstorm a bit here.
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.
