does this mean a user can close/lock a thread they started?  if not, is that something that someone can create/has created a mod for?

also, can moderators/admin view a list of newly closed topics?  (like the topics closed today or since last checked)  and again, can/has a mod been made for this?   maybe use/modify the 'show unread posts since last visit' to be 'show closed/locked topics since last visit'?

Yes, they can by default.  This is, of course, a permission.  You can change it as you like in Admin -> Permissions.

No one has ever even asked for that, specifically.  Why would it be so important to monitor locked topics?

great on the first locking topic/permission answer.  just what i need.

as for needing a way to monitor locked topics, i admit it's not the norm, but it will be needed for this project as it's an unusual use of a forum script.  i'm not a programmer, so to me it seems as simple as something like the 'show posts since last visit', but i don't know.   it would only be needed by admin/moderators, if that makes a difference.

if anyone is available to come up with the mod, please let me know and i'll be happy to explain in detail.

ETA:  another way to do it would be to have closed/locked topics 'archived' in the admin/moderator section.

ETA2:  or allow the user who posted the topic to close/lock it and move the topic to a forum called 'daily archive'.

Just check the MODs Board.  Or, use the Package Manager. :)

Or if you need help, either post, or look at the Help Available Board.  There's several offers to give help there. :)

thanks - i had to go back and look before i posted cause i didn't see those other boards until i looked again.  guess i'm not seeing so well these days ;)
