'Announce Topic'/notification to include image url of image inserted via editor

At the moment SMF does not include images in announced topics or the images url, or in reply notifications.

Not sending out potentially heavily image laden emails is ok, but it should include the urls of images inserted in topics and replies. This is not talking about attachments either - that might be a good idea too.

At the moment I am pasting the photo url in a topic  (so people know there are images in the post when they get email notification), then using the bbcode editor to display it in the topic. It looks 'messy' to say the least.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Especially when promoting events and people want to see what its like. Most people view topic notifications in their mailbox first rather than on the board. Having the photo links in that is an advantage.

well, I would not say that "most people" do that, since most forums I have participated in (and all of the ones that I admin) do not include the post contents in the notification.... :)

Talking for myself with my limited experience: 95% of the times I see the topic first and then the email, and anyway my mail client (and all the webmail I currently use) blocks any remote content, so I would not see any image in the email.

Take a peek at what I'm doing! ;D

Both of you missed my point - as I said it is not a good idea to send out (large) emails with photos etc.

I said ... there should be links in the emails to photos and other content that is included in posts so they can click the links to see them, rather than not know there are any photos until they log in.
If there are photos and other content in a post then announcements and notifications should convert them to a simple url. People know there is additional content - they can see via url or by going to the board.

At the present time users cannot tell if there are photos in a topic/post from notifications and announce topic.
