maintenance mode

read the manual
seems simple - but none of the features descriobed are what I desire
but here is my real question
we want the Forum Closed so we can make several edits
(without any one watching)
if I put the forum in maintenance mode
A. can I still do normal edits as Admin
(eg add categories, boards, topics)
B. Can the Global Moderator add Topics ?
C. Can I let one Full Member in by name to add  topics?

D. any harm if I try  ?

E. As the board is still new
(only 10 members - I just banned them all for 2 days
(they are part of the company = so all were warned)

If there another solution ?

B. generally no because they don't generally have access either

D. you can try but you'll just find it won't work
E. I'm not sure what the question is?

There is a mod that allows access to other groups while in maintenance mode but it hasn't been updated in years and may not work properly any more. It did when I first wrote it in 2009 or so though.

$maintenance = 0 is normal usage
$maintenance = 1 allows the Admin ONLY to work in the forum
$maintenance = 2 locks out EVERYONE, including the Admin

There is no UI for maintenance mode = 2, you physically cannot set it yourself in the admin panel. The only thing you can do in the admin panel is switch between 0 and 1.

There is a mod that allows access to other groups while in maintenance mode but it hasn't been updated in years and may not work properly any more. It did when I first wrote it in 2009 or so though.

It works for 2.0.4 because I just added it to my site a few weeks ago for the same reasons he wanted to.  I seen your post but gave the link to it as well.

The only conflicts I found with it, is if Simple Portal ( or any other portal) is installed before this MOD, the permissions won't work

I shouldn't really be that surprised, the fundamentals haven't changed that drastically since back then.
