2nd pop-up page of "[more]" smileys? (newbie)

Hi Friends,
Since this is about smileys, I'm not sure if I should post here or in Mods and Pkgs subforum.  I don't think I have a smiley mod, but please move this msg if necessary.  And in case you missed it in the title, I'm such a newbie  ::)

I'm using 2.04 with Tiny Portal.  I have my smileys set up with some showing in the editor (post form) and then a bunch more on the pop up from the "[more]" text link.  I wonder how hard it would be to make a 2nd link to a 2nd pop up page?

I've thought about using the tabbed smileys mod, so that might be a solution.  But I have so many smileys, that I would need so many tabs.  And I would go crazy deciding on categories, and which smiley fits best into which category, etc.

I've also thought about using 2 smiley sets.  But members would have to go to their control panel to switch back and forth.

I don't mind having all the smileys uncategorized, as far as the smiley face/emoticon type.  But I also need smileys which are various icons used in Inkscape (FOSS vector graphics editor) which is the subject of the forum.  So if I could have, beside the "[more]" text link, another one "[Inkscape icons]" that could be opened up as needed, that would be ideal.  If I can make this 2nd page, I could offer all or most of the icons used in the program (200 to 300 icons).  If this idea won't work out, I'll be more limited as to how many icons I can use as smileys.

At first I thought it might be fairly easy, essentially upload the new icons, and put a new text link.  But the more I think about all the smiley controls, I realize there must be much more to it than that.  Somehow the Edit Smileys page and Set Smiley Order pages would need to integrate with the 2nd page.

And before you answer, keep in mind that I'm managing to keep my head above water on this venture with the new forum.  But now and then I go under, lol.  I know almost nothing about PHP, although I do have a good grasp of basic HTML.  I can use a code editor (either on the server, or Notepad++) to change some code here and there.  But I couldn't begin to write PHP.

So chances are, this isn't going to work out.  In the end, I'll probably just use what I have now, and use Set Smiley Order page to keep them separated.  But I thought I'd pose the question, and maybe you guys know of something, or can come up with an easy, newbie-doable arrangement.  :)

Thanks for comments  :D

Oh yikes!
Since this has been moved to SMF Coding Discussion subforum, that's probably a good enough indication to me, that this idea will be WAY over my head, and too hard to achieve on my own, or even with a little help   (If it involves coding, you would probably have to hold my hand through the whole thing  ;))

I will mark Solved, and plan on using Set Smiley Order to keep the icons separated from the smileys, at least for now.  (or maybe use tabbed smileys mod)

But, I will still keep an eye on this, in case some happy coder comes along and picks up this idea and runs with it.   Maybe I could test it for them, or something, who knows?

Anyway, thanks.  You guys are the best!  :)

one additional trick that may help a bit is what i do.. create dummy smilies with descriptions on and include those in teh popup..

see screenie (i have smileys for all cycling teams)

Oh yes, that's a good idea.  I don't suppose the popup smiley page could be made to hold the smileys in a grid or table?

Even if I have horizonal lists, it depends on how the user shapes the window, as to whether the category name (dummy) is at the left side.  For example, if I were to open your smiley popup, I could make it taller, wider, thinner, etc., but the dummy WOMENS would not necessarily stay at the left side.

With a grid or table, you could have either hoizontal lists or vertical lists of smileys.  Just a thought  :)

Thanks dimspace  :)

Seems to me you want the tabbed smileys mod.
Holder of controversial views, all of which my own.

Yeh, it will purely use the existing ordering in to tidy them up a bit.. For tabulating youd need to rewrite a whole bunch of code.
The next step is arantor says tabbed smileys mod.

there was something kicking around on github that sorted smileys..

so you called smileys :typea|smile: :tibea|frown: :typeb|manic: and it would create seperate drop downs for every smiley category with only the first of each showing on the menu..

https://github.com/starim/SMF-Collapsible-Smiley-Display

but its been long since deserted..

and it would be a headache for people you are used to just typing : ) or ; ) as their smiley codes.

Yes, tabbed smileys is an option (as I think I've said).  The reason I want to avoid that is that I have so many smileys already (a little over 200).  So 20 or 30 above the editor, and then the other page holds all the rest.  If I used tabbed smileys, I'd have to come up with categories for all the smiley face type of smiley.....well, and the icon smileys as well (since there are probably another 200 of those).  And I get very frustrated trying to categorize smileys -- e.g. is this one more surprised or more shocked, or maybe it's more confused, etc., etc.  So that's why I decided to lump them all into one page.  If i were to lump them all into 1 tab, it would stretch the page and make composing messages frustrating.

So anyway, thanks for everyone's comments.  As I said, if someone wants to code something like this, I'd be glad to test.  But otherwise, it's apparently way beyond my skills to realize.

Thanks again  :)

You can create multiple "lines" of smileys, so that the "description dummy smiley" is always the first of the line.

Take a peek at what I'm doing! ;D

Can you tell me how?  Or point me to a tutorial?

When you select a smiley you see several arrows, after all of them, you see one arrow alone on an empty line, just click on it to start a new row of smiley (see http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/253/newrow.png/ for the popup, same thing for the post form)
